I have a Dachshund and it's not like she's able to get to them but I am very cautious when she's around them.

Well I ended up adopting a 2 year old dachshund/beagle mix from the pound who is pretty calm.

Not letting them interact or anything and being extra careful when they are both "out" at the same time so I'm trying to play it right and am going to do some research on introducing dogs and birds.

Congrats on your new found friend! :)

I have two danes (both adult shelter dogs) and they came in when I had just one parrot. Now we have three parrots! Neither dog cares much about the birds until they are flinging food everywhere...then it is time for the 300 lb shuffle with both dogs leaping over the couch to get to the bird cages first.

Sometimes I keep an eye on Filch because he will snatch food directly from the bird bowl--it's difficult when it's at his eye level--and he's very good at it when I turn my back. He also likes to bark at the birds to get them to scream. Sometimes I worry the neighbors will call the cops for all the noise...

Even when the birds flap to the floor and wander around, the dogs just sniff at them because they walk funny. But we've never had a problem...with either dogs or cats...
