Question Decoration Pets?!?!

Hey people,

I am wanting to get a tank or cage of small animal(s) to give my room some color and entertainment... the first thing that comes to mind if obviously FISH, but I want something a little more... uncommon and exotic. If I can't find anything else thats interesting, colorful, and low maintenance than I'll go with fish. But I was just wondering if there were other small low minimal pets because all my free time is spent with my birds :)

Thanks,

Micah

What about crayfish? They are really fin to watch eat and interact. Their only downside is that you need a good filter, because they can be a bit messy.

If you want color and entertainment get a TV. Dont get living creatures for color and entertainment. All animals are high maintenance. Fish would be the easiest to care for if you get a good system.

Here are a couple links about the different types of frogs and then what kind of set-up they'd need.

Treefrogs don't need attention, but that does not mean they are low maintenance. They are actually high maintenance. You need a big enclosure with a lot of equipment to keep heat, humidity, and air flow all at their required levels.

hermit crabs are pretty low maintenance :) food and water change every day, salt water baths once a week and clean the whole tank out every 3-4 weeks depending on what substrate you use for the bottom. probably take you on average 1 hour per week. if you get a long tank only about 30cm high and fill it with 15 crabs they will get very active in the evenings and make great fun to look at and play with..

plus they are awesome

I don't believe in LIVING animals held as entertainment and colour.

I think that the person just worded what he wanted a little off, maybe a non-companion pet would have been a better description. I've known a few people that like keeping non-interactive pets as, they get satisfaction from maintaining the pet and it's environment, and the animal gets a stable environment with food and no predators.
