tadpoles...

so, one day, my sister went out to catch some tadpoles and she came back with about 30 and i was like no...you take care of your own tadpoles. how am i supposed to know how to raise tadpoles?but i ended up helping her anyway which i shoudn't have done
because I was the one that had to do the research and find out what they ate and she kept asking ME to change the water and this morning she had to flush 4 dead tadpoles down the toilet and i wasn't even out of bed yet...i felt bad for not being able to find something to feed them...
i'm in a bad mood...

birdboard doesn't have evil and furious looking emoticons....
now i'm dancing because we're probably letting them go tomorrow

I loved raising tadpoles when I was a kid. I keep meaning to catch some for my kids. If I recall right, you just need some of the algae from where you find them and they'll eat that. I remember we just kept them in a big washtub in the backyard until they were frogs and then just let them go.

Most pet stores have tad pole bites in the reptile center.

One of the teachers at my kids school is raising tadpoles atm. She boils lettuce (awful smell) then feeds them that. Gets stored in icecube containers and put in the freezer in daily feeding amounts. They seem to be surviving.

I remember having taddies as a kid that managed to get to the frog stage but can't for the life of me remember what I fed them. It certainly wasn't boiled lettuce.

I had like 15 tadpoles not too long back. A lot of them died because I was a first timer. I fead them boiled the frozen lettuce. They loved it. I think 6 o 7 turned to frogs but sadly I could only let like 3 go. :(

If they are outside in a tub, then most likely you will get algae growing (so you don't have to actively feed them). However inside or after water changes you do have to feed them, you can feed different lettuces (dark leafy greens) or buy spirulina tablets at pet stores. But it sounds like it might just be better for them to go back outside. :)

I fed mine boiled lettuce and they grew up and I let them go. I gave my friend a few and she did the same but kept her frogs. After 8 or more years, there is still one frog left (VERY old for this kind of frog!) Make sure they're not overcrowded!

There are these two inch long grey and brown spotted tadpoles at my local pet store. Do you think it would be ok to put them in my tank with guppies and zebra danios? I had some before and was giving them algae pellets but never tried lettuce. They never made it to frogs, but the tail was getting smaller and it had little legs. When do you take them out of deep water and put them where they can get on land?
