Dog jumping fence

How do you stop a 30 kilogram dog from jumping a 2 meter fence whenever he feels like taking himself for a walk?

After finding Flea at the front door every day for the past week, we wondered how he was getting out. Today mum took the huskies for a walk and I stayed behind to watch Flea try and follow them. He nonchalantly hopped right over the 2 meter fence. I yelled NO and he put on his "oh oh I'm in trouble!" face and hid in the dog shelter. I then hid behind the mesh door where he couldn't see me and watched again. He sneaked out and went to jump on top of the shelter so I again yelled NO and he went "oh no!" and ran under the shelter again. I hid once more and after about 7 minutes of walking backwards and forwards and sniffing the air, he came to the door and lay down. I immediately said good boy and gave him a treat and let him inside. That's all I have done to combat this act, but it I don't think it will help in the long run!

Any tips?

Uhhh... ever think about introducing Flea to an agility course?jk

Unfortunately my sis is under contract and can't share her dog training info with me. *sigh* Sorry, wish I could help.

Dog jumping fence

Actually, they make a no jump harness just for this purpose. I don't know what type of dog supply outlets or online stores you have, but I would start there. The harness has saved many a life. It is called No JUmp Harness. It is not a regular dog harness. Good luck. Don't wait to long.

We live in a rental so we can't build on the fence... how else could we raise it??

Interesting greycloud, I will look into these. I had never heard of them but it sounds perfect! But I was more looking for training advice since I don't have a job and can't afford anything at the moment :(

Lol, I always dreamed of having a sheltie that would fly through agility with me.

Apparently today someone saw Flea on the opposite side of the highway to my house... I was skeptical because Flea has a bit of road sense (for a dog), plus we never go on walks that way so why would he head there instead of the park... and it would also mean that he jumped back over the fence today when every other day he just waited patiently at the front door until someone lets him in... so I don't know if this bit of info is correct. I doubt it, but regardless it is a possibility.
I suggested the no jump harness to my mum and she went bananas about how much the pets are costing and how it's all my fault. I understand her stress- the financial crisis effects everyone... but I think our responsibility to our animals comes first. Sometimes I wish she was more like some of the caring people on this board! Does anyone know how much these no jump harnesses cost anyway?
She is wanting to just chain him up but I hate this idea. I don't believe in chaining dogs up and I really want to avoid this.

I think for the dogs own safety I would chain him up. Im not a great lover of chains but I would rather give this ago than risk my dog wandering and potentially getting a smack of a car
