LOL, yes, we've already noticed how clever the rottie can be when she's trying to be sneaky. I was a puppy raiser for Canine Companions for Independence (the wheelchair assistance dogs), so I'm pretty firm with her. She knows that if she tests my limits, there will be consequences. But with my husband, she has already figured out that she can get away with quite a bit of impudence.

I kinda chase her around the yard - clap my hands, whistle at her, etc. She races around like a maniac and zips past me at full tilt. She knows that she must NEVER jump on me, or nip at me. So my husband decides to try this game. He claps his hands & whistles - she stares him straight in the eye, takes off like a race horse in the starting gate, and launches herself right into his stomach! Nearly knocked him down - I laughed so hard when I heard this. Poor hubby!

She's also figured out that she's almost tall enough to take food off of the table. We caught her tonight with her open mouth approx. 5 inches from my husbands turkey burger. We sternly said, "Jemma - leave it!!!" and she backed away from the burger, trying to look innocent. Little scamp!

Actually, Jemma LOVES little dogs. She is scared of big dogs. I don't think she knows she is a big dog. And she really likes all the chihuahuas that she meets. When I took her to the vet for her shots, she had a chance to meet a one month old pot bellied pig. It was tiny, less than 5 lbs, and Jemma crawled around on her belly, trying to be submissive to the pig. It was hilarious!

Sounds exactly how I play with my Doberman and new rottie. The only other thing is they both love to be "smacked" around playfully!

I like to call that look they get before jumping onto the counter, 'commence counter surf'. You can see it in their eyes lol.

The playing pics are cute! Jemma tries to play with our wiener dog, but he's 10 yrs old and surly. He just snarls and bites her nose. Luckily I can take her with me to the barn and she gets to play with the trainer's dogs (aussie, and a flock of golden labs).

I wish we had a bigger yard too, but that's a rare commodity here in Southern California.
