Bloodhound Pup Pic Update!!!!!!

This morning I awoke to her shivering. Called my boss and off to the doc - SO afraid of Eclampsia since she was too young. Her Calcium was good but blood work showed infection with a fever as well. Ultrasound and TWO ex-rays later CHA CHING showed no puppies (we thought we saw one in the ultrasound) or placenta left but just fluid. SOoo, An entire liter of sub-Q fluids and antibiotics we went home. I have to administer another entire liter tomorrow and help feed the puppies who are not having any of that. She has a huge camel lump hanging off her neck and seems just sad. My Poor doggie. Puppies are a week old tomorow and growing fast. *SIGH*

Hopefully she starts feeling better.
The risk of losing my mama dog was the reason when I was showing I never got into breeding.

Do you breed show or working bloodhounds?

working in tracking. Papa tracks game and she was supposed to as well as human but she climbed the eight foot fence a few years too soon. Want a pup for human and possibly Cadaver training as well. Problem is the clubs around here are so tight nit. Its easier to get into the Moose lodge!

Mama Bloodhound is sick

Lori, did the vet think she might have mastitis in her teats? That is common and could cause infection.

No mastitis yet. Fluid was in her uterus. Puppies are draining teats well and they seem to be filling well. But what gets me is If I feed these pups once a day couldnt that risk mastitis more if she gets full for too long? She looks better today and is spending more time with her pups. I put a big soft fluffy dog bed in there outside the box so she could rest away from them but she chose them this morning GOOD!! I saw one puppy get up off her belly for a few seconds today all shaky legs. Woo, one week, eyes closed and starting to walk, lol!!
