I dunno but I do know I have been using Frontline for about Ten years and now its over - It doesnt work and Im ready to try Advantage as I have been hearing the same story all over and those who have switched to Advantage are seeing results now. The Fleas are becoming immune. Time to switch. I am a full time groomer of over 15 years and this is a first for me. I also have seven dogs and have never had a flea issue until now.

My dog is on Sentinel, I had never heard of it until we got him and my vet recommended it. It prevents fleas, heartworms, and three types of intestinal worms. Instead of a liquid it's a beef chewable tablet he gets once a month. My mom uses Frontline for her dogs and it seems to be working, but I better have her check now! I think with any product though with enough use the fleas could become immune like Lori said. As far as problems go other then immune fleas, my mom has never had an issue with it.

It is so bad here when spring comes. All fleas wake up and suddenly they are EVERYWHERE!

They murmurings I hear from customers is that the frontline is not always effctive and a few of them have mentioned that their vets are saying to use a couple of brands in different months to mix it up to avoid the fleas becoming immune.

The thing to remember is that advantix helps protect against ticks and the others dont (that I can remember off the top of my head). And tick collars don't work other than to drive them all down to the dog's butt. SO it tick protection is a priority where you live, I would say give it a go.

Frontline, used every two weeks, is a good tick prevention as well.

The thing i like about frontline is that is contains IGR's. Insect growth regulators stop the fleas from developing into adults and are completely safe.. The problem i have found with people who are saying that Frontline does not work are mainly the people who are not treating the other areas in the home. You can't JUSt treat the dog, you need to vacuum your carpets regularly, wash all your bedding and the pet's bedding in HOT water and use flea sprays for other areas in the home. If you attack them from all angles then you will get rid of the fleas. I have used Frontline and i do believe it is a good product.

Here are some links on IGRs, what they are and how they work.

Has anyone tried Neem oil? My mum swears by it. We haven't had a flea problem since we started using it, alongside the other treatments (advantage, frontline, revolution etc) The fleas just don't want to go near a dog that smells like Neem oil. It's also safe, as far as I can tell, for small animals but don't quote me on that since it's just in my experience. Best of all it's natural and uses no chemicals. Just a thought.

NO - You dont understand at all. I have been an Advocate for Frontline and Frontline plus for as long as the product has been out. Teaching people how to use it properly is part of my Buisness as a groomer. Now Im hearing it not working I too have been saying hey - your not doing it right but thats not what is happening. It IS in fact not working now for hundreds who have used it for as many years with good results as I have. Im even reading about this online as well. I know all about IGRS and different insecticides as well. Its simply not working.

I definitely understand your point. I have been selling/using the stuff for the past 11 years. We will have to agree to disagree. I am in a different country to you, that may be the reason. I hear the people saying the same things about Advantage too. Everyone has their 'favourite.' The reason i bought up IGRs is that they are natural, safe and fleas CANNOT work up a resistance to them, as with things like fipronil and imidicloprid (sp?) active ingredients.

I will do some research about what people are saying about it. If it's really not working in the US, then it could may well happen down here. Can you link me to anything to read?

I used frontline on my cats but it's NOT working. How long until I can use Advantage? - Yahoo! Answers
Frontline NOT working - Go Pitbull .com - Pitbull Forums
But I cannot link you to all my clients who are complaining and it started with my close friend who trusts my opinion. I told she was doing it wrong and she about smacked me,lol. This is the VERY FIRST year since the product was invented that I have put it on three times in a row (three months) and its done nothing. And Im purchasing quality inspected product - not fakes as far as I can believe from the knowledge I have and purchase location. But then from all I am hearing (from clients) its happening all over. I am going out today to get some Advantage as my vet has simply said the fleas are becoming immune and a switch is necc if only for awhile then we might be able to switch back. That makes sense as bugs do gain immunity. We see it daily in the agricultural world of pesticides. Even our Horse wormers need to be rotated. As for the Hijacking of this Thread....Im going to try Advantage or Advantix - Ill let you know how its working..........tonight and tomorrow. As soon as the dang sun is up Hubby and I are going for a drive to get some....and going back to the Garlic on the food as well, It has always seemed to be a huge help. Something else I didnt do this year yet. They are not bothering me, just the dogs and hubby

Yes, it's happening all over that the products people have been using are no longer working for flea control. I see it all the time at the animal hospital where I work. It seems like it just started this year though.

I have used Frontline, Advantage, AdvantageMulti, and Advantix. I really saw no difference in them, maybe the Advantage products were more greasy, but everyone has their favorite that they swear by.

Now, Promeris is one that I don't care for, just because of the smell. It would be a great product, but you have to apply a really large volume and they try to cover up the chemical smell with a "eucalyptus" scent. It's strong and it lingers. Otherwise, it wasn't as greasy and repelled ticks well.

My new favorite is Vectra 3D. I have only applied it once, but I really liked how the liquid soaked right into the dogs skin and didn't leave a grease spot for days like Advantix. It was easy to apply, with no smell.

I haven't had a dog have a reaction to any of these products. I think for some dogs the Advantix burns/tingles a little when you first apply it, but most don't mind. My cat did have a reaction to Frontline, but it didn't require medical treatment.
