The rats are obsessed with feathers and try to steal them off the birds. Probably the more practical parrot- Peanut avoids the rats... but of course little missy thinks it is all a game!!!

What great pictures!! I can't believe how big they are getting! Vlad is such a cutie in his little harness.

I love the new rat palace. What are you using on the bottom? I've been using towels which I wash every 3 days. They like to hide in the folds.

Well in the 2 days that I have had it, I used newspaper the first day and they pooped everywhere. Next day I only have newspaper under the food bowls and voila- poop only on the newspaper! (Refer to the 4th picture down where there is a droopping beside the pellet bowl!) It seems they were litter trained all along- I had just been making the 'litter area' too big! I was thinking about towels; I hand wash their woolen bedding every few days so it wouldn't be that difficult. Do yours soil the towels?

They poop a little bit except mostly near where the littler tray is.

I got a 'finch' cage for them which has lots of floor space and will have even more when I get the second level finished.

Mine don't use the harness yet. I think they are too small still anyway. I will make a rat thread to show you some photos of their house.

oh my gosh look how big they're getting! they're not babies anymore! Waffles got HUGE! i can't wait to see these guys full grown! They're new cage looks great, i'm sure they love it. what spoiled babies! :P

I love the outside pics, Waffles used to come out on a harness with me all the time... I could even take him out without a harness, he always ran to me to be picked up. (he never went more than a few steps from me :P ) he was too scared. Vlad looks like he really enjoyed it!

Love the pictures! One of my rats loved to go out on her leash. She loved to dig in the dirt. You might try putting a digging box in the rats cage too, they love to dig holes. Mine also loved fishing for peas. I would put peas and a dish of water and they would dunk their heads under to get them, like bobbing for apples!

They're such clean little critters :) Can't wait for those pics Andie! I don't even know what yours look like! A finch cage is a good idea. I need to put on a proper 2nd and 3rd level for them.

I wish I had a huge pen for them to play in so I wouldn't have to keep relocating them back to the middle of the lawn. I have tried them with fishing, but not for peas I bet they'd love that!
