Welcome our newest family member

I finally got myself another fighting fish. Naturally it had to be a red one to go with my kitchen. Would I smack someone coming to me for a bird that went with their decor? Of course.

Welcome Hunter. The kids named him after some wrestler dude. Now please remember it is a fighter fish and they normally occupy puddles. The vase he's in is about 3 times the size of the normal containers they have for these guys, just the perspective doesn't come out in the pic for some reason.

Siamese are so beautiful. When my children were young we had a female and male. It was incredible to see how the father prepared the nest and took such good care of their babies.

He is pretty!! The red is so stunning!

In a bowl that small just be super sure that you don't overfeed him. If there is any left overs you are in for tragedy!

no see, not to Jab, but they are native to rice paddies in Thiland and Cambodia and rice paddies are immense to a fish that size. they are however good in oxygen thin water. THis is a huge misconception for these fish.

He could deffinately benifit from a bigger container, at least a couple gallons. The better surface space - the better. See how their mouths are kinda tiltled upwards? They get most of their air from the surface - this is essential for them. Evem if the water has LOTS of oxygen in it - they need the surface space.

Oh, and also, you might want to look into getting something with a cover - they're great jumpers.

He's beautiful, by the way! The red ones are my fave - my red male died not long ago, he was awesome. Now i have a red female and a blue male! I want to breed them, but i have to do more research, it seems difficult!

You might want to invest in a wide bowl. The surface offers great volume of oxygen and more room for the little guy to swim around in. Also live water plants are great, even the kind that grow out of the top of the bowl with just the roots under water. It makes a beautiful attraction and the fish love to nibble and swim thru them.

Ok hands up who has actually had a betta before.

Well this is my 4th. My other 3 lasted 2-3years each, 2 of them I bought at the same time. They all lived in a container like this which was cleaned weekly, betta specific water conditioner was used and they got few grains of betta specific food daily. The vase holds 1.5L of water. I know this due to the amount of water conditioner that is added. They are not like other fish. When I had tropical fish they've been in a 3 ft planted tank and great care taken as to types that got along and numbers so as to keep a healthy community.

There's a small chance I know what I'm doing here.

I've had a betta fish before... it was bought for decoration... and when it died the next morning, it was put into the toilet... only to magically come alive again, when the person forgot to flush the toilet because they had to go do something else....

Hate to say it, but I was glad to get rid of the fish! I am *NOT* a fish person... I've got an aunt who is, but I just never picked up on... They are gorgeous, but not for me.
