I was familiar with her story, but its still a good read. Today, what challenges has she yet to overcome? And, do you think her eyes have adjusted to seeing upside down and convert to rightside up? Does that even make sense?

Bonnie I can't tell you enough how in awe of you I am. Only two chapters and I'm even more in love with Gemini and her story. Please keep going.

WELL as far as challenges to overcome-Like Lisa says about Emma-She can only really fly in circles-so she tends to NOT fly unless spooked.She has adapted (I think very well) to seeing Good both upside down and right side up-which I find to be quite amazing(and YES that makes alot of sense-I dont think I could do it:)She is a bit blind sighted on one side which is why I keep Her cage in a corner(no surprizes for her)and she has always had a bit of a hitch(sorta)in her gait-which in turn caused her to learn"Uh-Oh Time for Wapner" cause her walk reminded me of Rainman(LOL)
Darlie-Dont be in AWE with ME-Gemini taught me everything,and continues to do so-She is definatly-"The Grand Madame of this Household!

Gemini's Story-Chapter 3

OMG Is she gonna FLY?
We know by now that Gemini is able to raise her head enough to actually Preen and she can feed herself(very well I might add)!
She does walk with what I would call a sorta-Rain-man walk kinda but doesn’t quite drag the left leg(She even learned to say”UH-OH Time for Wappner”.I Never imagined that she would even Try to FLY! WRONG! Once she got comfortable enough with keeping her balance-Then came the wing flapping(Lord yet again My Heart Be still)!It WAS SO HARD to allow her to BE a PARROT,I just wanted to keep her protected and safe--Yea Like SHE was gonna put up with THAT! Sure enough after about a week of Practice She had Take off! All I can say is that she can do right circles but not for long! Thank the Lord that once she got it out of her system, she does not fly unless she is spooked!
OK-now -So far I have really tried to keep her away from the other fids, I rekon its time to let her socialize!Again,all my worry was for nothing!I just started leaving her door open and she would climb on up to the top and hang out or come out on the floor and join in the fun! The others were curious but did NOT Bother her! Here are some pics !





What is Funny is when the others enter HER Cage and She is in there-I actually watched Her grab hold of a Quakers tail and help him to the bottom of the cage-Then when she saw that I saw her do it, she looked down at him and said “You OK Baby-Huh You OK?” I cracked Up! She would also call the kitty then pick up and toss her 30 0z water bowl at the cat(ya gotta love it )Gemini continued to make all kinds of progress not only with her balance, getting around,playing,eating and preening but her Talking was phenomenal! I would tell people that she was so smart cause she had more blood flow to the brainJ.
Through out all of this, I was also hand raising up to 20 tiels at a time, up to 3 Quakers and Indian ring-necks. SO Gemini soon became The Mother Hen Ya might say- as soon as she would see me getting My feeding station ready she would start saying(In her sweetest Mommy voice) “You hungry Huh-want some, its good”
When Gemini was about 8 months old, I contacted Bird-Talk about writing her story for their “Special Bird” section, They wrote back to me asking If I could write the Story and They were going to use it in a Feature Story about Handicapped birds! WELL ALL-RIGHTY THEN! So With My Daughters Help(actually she was MORE then just Help) We wrote the story! Sorry but I rekon that will have to be in the next Chapter! To be Continued! LOL

It is only now seeing this group of photos that her handicap is really understood fully. She really is amazing! And to think, in the wild, she wouldn't have lasted a week. The power of love!

I love this story. While I feel the tears streaming down my face, at the same time, I am smiling. Please don't keep us waiting too long for the next chapter! Like The Outlaw said "the power of love." And it's true. There was a reason she came to you - and at that young age. Can you only imagine if she was sent to someone else?

It is scarey to know they would not have survived in the wild, and how incredibly sweet they are with us, makes us shutter at the thought of it.

What a wonderful story Bonnie! Gemini is such a special girl, and you've worked so hard to give her a great life. A couple of people have commented about how she wouldn't have survived a week in the wild. That's why, for me, this represents perhaps the highest "ideal" in regards to human/animal interaction. Imagine it, that we can intervene in such a way as to make a meaningful life possible for a little one who would have otherwise had no chance. As a race we could aspire to nothing better.
