So what differences........

or changes have you had to make to ensure your special abled parrot has a comphy cage?

Emma Lynn has a shorter Avian Adventures cage, so in the event she is sleeping(with her head upside down) and she falls, its not a far drop. Other then that, her cage is completely the same as the normal abled parrots here.

I don't have any pets with special needs. I find it very interesting reading the posts and it gives me hope! You are truly wonderful people to provide for the special needs :)

Would a little foam mat at night help in case she falls off?

Miss Emma is nest happy and would probably rip the mat up into a gazillion pieces. She has gotten better over the years...which is good.
I'm also not sure how safe any foam would be if injested by mistake.

Like you for the most part, mine are in lower cages. Skyye has a padded bed in his for him to sleep on when he wants to. I also have a wire shelf in with my newest (Little Man - Plumhead) I need to move it though so he will try to use it hopefully. Sweetpea has a lava rock in hers to sit on so that it is a little easier on her legs - not that it stops her from climbing up onto the hanging perch that is hanging from my ceiling for all the birds.

For my Tiels with scoliosis - there really is not anything different from a normal cage. Shadow is in the main area so I can keep an eye on him and hand feed him as he needs it.

Other than those things - they are all normal cages.

When I had my completely spraddled budgie, I had a ladder strung horizontally across the cage for him to perch or lay on and also had a plastic canary basket in there on the side for him to get in and rest.

When my friend had a budgie with a pegleg, they converted a small cage eitther a hamster or a budgie cage, and added a ladder hung horizontally in the cage as well as padded ramps for her her to get around in the cage.
