sponge hoddle

I have made a sponge hoddle for a 3 wk old. love bird, can anyone who has had succes with this tell me ..1 how thick should the sponge be? ..2 how far apart should the holes be?..3 Anway of making a good hole in the sponge

I suppose the sponge should be thick enough to keep the legs in place but not so thick that the bird has issues with some amount of movement. The holes should be the correct distance apart as if the bird didn't have the issue in the first place.

sorry for late reply, thanks for that. I am glad I have had a 95% success the bird (OLLIE) can climb ,walk, fly & land, maybe not quite as good as the others but it has a good quality of life.
I did make a change to the hobble on the net, instead of putting holes in the make up sponge (which I did at first) I made a slit to the Max width of the legs, this made it much easier to put on. Some days I had to make 3 changes due to pecking through, It seemed more comfortable for Ollie & he seemed to get around better.
Make up sponges are the only ones with the right density

Glad you had good success with the technique! I haven't allowed any of my birds to reproduce so I've never delt with the issue before.

Got any pictures of the guy?
