Friendly bird hates my mom!
I have a 2 year old beautiful blue male parrotlet who is generally extremely friendly, brave, and outgoing. My mom and I got him together and we both gave him lots of attention, but for some reason he bonded to me. He is a total doll, loves to nestle in my hair and will perch on my shoulder all day long.
About a year ago he started to behave aggressively towards my mom. He ruffles his feathers and screams at her when she walks by his cage, and will bite her if she holds him. He REALLY hates her! He is very sweet to me, and even seems to have bonded with my dad, who is not much of an animal lover. He'll happily perch on my dad's finger and sing to him, but if my mom comes near, he goes crazy. She has always been nice to him, and she is the one who buys him all of his food, treats, and toys! Is there anything I can do to help him learn to love her? I am worried because I go to college in the fall and can't take my bird, so he will be left with my mom and dad. I'm afraid he will be very lonely and bored, because my mom doesn't want to do anything with him! Help!!

Are you sure it's a male? This sounds ALOT like female parrotlet behavior.
It sounds as if your mother has been labeled a "rival" by your parrotlet. A rival for your affection. Rivals will not be tolerated, and will not be forgiven. Once a rival always a rival. However, when you leave for school and are out of the picture there may be a shred a hope that your parrotlet will now accept your mom back since they will no longer be competing for your affection. I am sorry but dad may be taking over bird care when you leave for school.

Thanks! Now that you say that, it makes perfect sense, because I am often doing things with my mom and we leave the house together a lot (which makes him very mad). I'm hoping he will adjust to life without me, and my dad will just have to step up to the plate!

as blueroseaviary said are you sure hes male, i have had no such problems with jake hes quite happy to go to anyone, which is very good considering that i live by myself and dont get many visitors. anyone can pick him up from inside or outside of his cage, and hes never taken a dislike to anyone.
