Biting Issues
I am a new Parrotlet owner. I have perviously owned budgies and had one years ago that could talk and was very well behaved. This new parrotlet is a joy to own, however she is having nippy issues. She is about 10 weeks old now. She was handfed and I think this is were the issue is steming from. She loves being out of the cage and socializing with me and my husband, but as soon as we put away any treats she starts to bite. I try to get her interested in other toys, but to on avail. I have tried putting her away in her cage and ignoreing her, but it seems more like a reward as her cage has many entertaining toys. I have tried dropping my hand everytime she bites, which only causes her to bite you harder. I have not reacted with ouch or screaming just a firm "no," with each attempt to stop her biting. She only bites with intent when you have tried to move away or drop your hand. When she initially starts its almost as if she is looking for more treats and thinks your hand will magically produce it if she nibbles and then bites it. I do not tolerate nibbling or biting. What can I do? Someone give me some info so I can stop the behaviour while she is young. Other than this small issue..she is a wonderful, happy companion to me and my husband. Thanks!!
