HELP! Female constantly laying eggs
HI everyone,
This is not my parrotlet, it's my friends
she had adopted a pair of parrotlets from Gray Haven (bird rescue) and they came as a pair.
But a few months ago the decided to seperate the pair as she kind of picks on the male. The male is a plucker but we went over to visit yesterday and themale seems waaaaaaaay better then he did when he was in the same cage with the female. their cage sits side by side with about 2-3 ft space in bewtween them.
ANYWAYS..........
The female is about 4 or 5 years old and lately she has been laying eggs about every 5-7 days.
THe owners are really worried as i told them it is not good for her as she is using her calcium in her body to produce those eggs.
I've advised them to remove all "nesting" materials and not to feed warm mushy food. They are only being fed roudy bush pellets and fresh fruits and veggies.
she has newspaper on the bottom of the cage and she lays her eggs on the newspaper on the back right hand corner.
My friends are really worried about her as they do not know what else to do.
is there anything else you can suggest to help her stop laying eggs so often?
They are thinking of getting a male for her as they hear if there is a male present she may only lay 2 clutched or what not in a year compared to every 5-7 days...
Anyways any suggestions would be great
Thanks
