Poorly Iggi
Hi guys, as is usually the way with these things I am here due to a problem I am experiencing. I have a baby (3 month old) celestial parrotlet called Iggi. Ig became very tired on thursday and slept a lot. My partner then noticed he had become disorientated. We rang his breeder who said to take to vet and get Baytrill, give probiotic and eggfood. The vet was dubious as (you'll know this) when a bird looks poorly, he is pretty critical - they instictively look well. He gave baytrill and speculated Ecoli might be the problem, vets in UK are unwilling to begin blood investigations etc (sorry to anyone who has a good vet!) stools were either water or semi solid. We noticed Iggi had stopped eating (though he sat at his food bowl and dipped in as if he was). We began handfeeding baby food at first with vitamins and probiotic and occasional drops of peptobismol (recommended in parrotlet handbook) moving on to formula. Ig began to pick up late saturday after not tweeting eating or preening all day, he tweeted and generally looked brighter. He had looked really bad. We were so happy and thought we were through the worst. Ig still seems better in himself but has begun to arch backwards, his feet have been contracted for a few days and he is still unsteady. We are really concerned that Ig now has a neurological problem (causing the 'looking skyward' pose). Does anyone have any experience of this, could he recover i.e when swelling in brain reduces etc? Is this the same as 'stargazing'? Could it be a feeding respone? Basically we would like to know what this phenomenon is and will he get better? Thanks guys, hope all you little birdies are well x x x
