Sandee Molenda (Parrotlet Expert)

Sandee Molenda is a breeder who specializes in sweet hand-fed pets as well as rare species and subspecies of parrotlets. Presently, she is breeding six species of Forpus parrotlets: Pacific, Green Rump, Blue Wing, Mexican, Spectacled and Yellow Face. Additionally, she has subspecies of many species as well as color varieties of Pacifics. Although she has been raising small parrots since 1983, she has been breeding parrotlets exclusively since 1986. Sandy co-foundered the International Parrotlet Society. We are proud to welcome Sandee to the Birdboard.

Introduction

My name is Sandee Molenda and I have been breeding parrotlets for than 20 years. When I received my first pair, I was shown the male and female and took them home. Although I bought them from a friend, no one would tell me what to feed them, what kind of cage they needed, how old they had to be to breed and certainly no one knew how (or even why) to hand-feed them. I did not even know what species they were or even that there were other species of parrotlets. They were a wild-caught pair of Pacifics and it took three years before they produced their first baby. I remember saying that if I ever figured out how to breed and raise these tiny parrots, I would always try and make myself available to anyone that needed help or advice whether it was for breeding or pet behavior questions.
