What should I do?

I have written in the main forum about this I am rather new to this site... so i was hoping to find out its too late now but if I get another Parrolet I want to do the right thing... Almost 2 1/2 months ago I bought a Green Pacific Parrolet and named him Jasper.. he was supposed to be a baby but I have come to find out that he is in fact over a year old.. and that he was with a bonded female and that he shouldnt have been sold as an individual bird...little did i known then in my excitement so I bought him but I specifically asked the Man I bought him from if this was going to be ok on the bird and he assured me it would be.. well I brought him home trained him.. loved on him but I noticed he wasnt as active as a parrolet should be, shortly after I bought him I noticed he was having a heck of a time perching and that he slept alot.. he was eating and pooping like normal and I had him on a specific diet of pellets and I was doing everything I thought was right for the little guy.. still no improvements.. called the Pet Store asked them about it they just told me to give him time which I have.. still no improvement.. so I took him to an Avian Bird Veterinarian just 2 or 3 weeks ago tops to have him examined she said he looked good, his feathers were great, his poop was normal asked me what I was feeding him I told her .. pellets she said good she was concerned only with his stance and that his legs seemed a bit weak she said that could be because he wasnt perching she recomended I go get him some very thin perches like manzanita perches which I did, and she recomended maybe isolate him for a bit from all the noise and ruckus in my home I have a Husband, children, a dog 2 parakeets and a Green Cheek Conure...so I moved him into me and my husbands room and spent alot of alone time with him and he still continued to sleep alot, I started to believe that maybe he was just a lazy bird.. but I was still concerned because of no improvemnts, keep this in mind this has been going on with Jasper since I have owned him.. so I went down to the Pet Store to track the guy I bought him from down he wasnt in so they sent me to talk to the lady who deals with the birds.. and thats when I found out that he wasnt supposed to be sold as an individual bird , the female he was with inside of the cage was his bonded mate and they were supposed to be sold together and that Jasper wasnt 5 months old that he was over a year old and that because of this seperation he was probably in a deep state of depression..so I asked her what do I do I love my Bird and I want what is best for him if that means buying the female he was with, she said she wasnt even sure if the little female was still at the store and that the best thing to do for Jasper was just to give him lots of Love, and attention which I have been doing since I have owned him and try to pull him out of this.. so I reluctantly said ok.. came home handled him loved him, talked to him anything to try and comfort him.. but by now he has gotten worse...so the day after I went to the Pet store I called the Store again and asked to talk to the specific guy who sold him to me.. got him on the phone finally and confronted him of course he played it off said he would try to get ahold of some breeders for some advice on what to do and that they have never experienced anything like this ..told me to call him back today.. but Jasper didnt make it I awoke at 3 am to check on him and he was barely breathing.. even gave him a little CPR he came around for a few minutes then he died in my hands and I am hurt and mad and crying because if I had known any of this and told my Vet maybe I could have helped him and saved him, i was bonded to this little bird and him to me and he depended on me to take care of him..so now what to do go get another Parrolet, demand my money back what it isnt going to make it any better I even even called the breeder I purchased my conure from.. he said the same thing it is very possible that he is depressed and to try to pull him out of it before he dies well too late for that.. Sorry but maybe some advice some clarification that my instincts are correct anything heck even if he could have been sick which I doubt because the Vet said he seemed fine.. what do I do if he was sick I am worried about my other birds.. so i am a mess Just any advice possible would help...

I am so sorry for your loss. Since the vet checked Jasper carefully, your other birds should not be at risk. If you have not buried Jasper, it may be worth taking him to the vet to see if they can determine what caused his death. I think animals do sometimes grieve like people, but there is absolutely nothing you could have done or known -- please don't beat yourself up.

I suspect if this had happened to me, I would be on a wild hunt to find his mate to try to keep her from going the same way, but I do know that would be heart over and head and might not be a good thing to do.

As for adding another bird to the family -- have you thought about looking at local shelters, craig's list, etc? There are always a lot of birds looking for new homes, but with the tough economy, there are more and more folks who can't afford to take care of their birds any more. I know they would be thrilled to find someone who cares as much as you do!
