Parrotlet laid eggs, I thought it was a boy!?!

Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and new to parrotlets but not to birds. I bought a little green parrotlet from a girl about 2-3 months ago and she said Pepper was a boy and all the information I read indicated it was a male since there is some blue on the wings. Much to my suprise, SHE had laid 2 eggs in her cage this morning. I'm pretty sure they were not viable since she hasn't been in contact with any males, also, the eggs were amber in color when I held a flashlight to them, which to me indicates infertile. Anyway, I am wondering if this is normal since my other bird has never laid eggs and I would also like to know how many eggs to expect from her. I believe this is her first clutch of eggs since I was told she is just about a year old. I did make a nesting box for her as well.
Thanks!!

Guess what, she's not a boy!! That would be quite the surprise though. I got a conure from a bird rescue and was told it was a boy so I would be just as surprised if I found eggs in his cage...lol

LoL

Yes it was a shocker!!! I have been doing a little research but I am hoping someone here can help me out with their "hands-on" experience. Your Sun Conure is very beautiful by the way, I had one several years ago named Darwin and I just loved him!

Well thank you...I love him to pieces. He is a spoiled snot box.

I don't have any knowledge on egg laying but I am sure that someone here can help. They are great and are very willing to help out.

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't give her a nestbox -- I would take away anything that encourages breeding behavior since egg laying can be bad for her health. That means removing nesting material, increasing her sleep time, reducing anything that makes her hormonal. You may also want to supplement her calcium. There are lots of knowledgeable people on this forum -- hopefully someone will come along with more specific advice. Welcome to BB.

:)

Well, I am not upset, I love her all the same! LOL I just didn't know what to do for a female. I have chickens and all I do is collect their eggs, wash them and eat them, so I wasn't sure what to do with her marble sized eggs lol. All kidding aside, I have geckos also and applied my knowledge of eggs being fertile in accordance with them to her eggs so I knew they wern't viable but hopefully one day I will get a mate for her. I attached a photo of Pepper but I don't think you can see the blue on her wings that made me think it was a boy.

I think she's a cutie too. She was just getting some new feathers in when I took that. Good news though, no more eggs so far!!!
