Hello, all!
I just received 2 male Pacifics 2 weeks ago from a man who was moving. It's my first parrotlets ever, although I have owned birds for about 20 years now.
He thought they were a M/F pair, but after about 10 seconds on the 'net, I discovered they were 2 males. They have been together about 5 years. Everything is going GREAT for them...just started them on some pellets, fresh foods, and fresh seeds (the bag he sent was completely molded), the only thing is this: There is still a nest box attached to the cage, and I caught them mating several times over the last couple of days. Poor things! Don't they know nothing will come of it?
Anyway, given the situation, I'd like to take off the nestbox first of all. They do sleep in it at night, but I hope it won't rock their world too much (?) I can make them a happy hut, if they just like to sleep in a dark crevice.
and also, sometime in the future, would it be advisable to try and find them more, um, appropriate mates/partners? I don't want to scar them for life or anything like that by separating them. I mean, they do seem happy, and it's not like I have to worry about egg-binding, lol. Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has this, er, situation. I haven't ever rescued 2 birds caged together of the same sex, so it's a new one for me
Thanks!
