Pellets

I am hoping to find some advice on parrotlets and pellets. I have read so much conflicting information about how much pellets should be included in their diet. My vet told me that pellets should be about 70% off his diet, but it seems like a lot of people here say no pellets at all for these tiny ones. Any advice? Thanks so much!

I'm going to tell you what my breeder told me; Pellets are made of ground up seed. My bird gets only cockatiel mix and lots of little bits of whatever anybody else is eating.

Thanks Crebrain! Definitely good to know, I've been using cockatiel mix also, so that's reassuring :)

Good pellets are a lot more than just ground up seed. Problem is that there are good and bad pellets out there. The bad (cheap) pellets are just ground seed.

I feed my parrotlets (Tweep and Twerp) about a third lovebird mix (similar to cockatiel but has safflower seed instead of sunflower seed), a third pellets (Sun Seed small pellets), and a third fresh fruits and vegetables. I mix the seed and pellets together, fresh stuff separately.

The Sun Seed pellets contain ground grains, seed, dried egg (extra protein) and a whole list of vitamins including calcium, D, E, C, iron. B-complex, zinc, niacin, etc. The pellets are higher in protein and tend to be lower in fat that a straight seed diet. ZuPreem also makes a good pellet.

Thanks,
Curtis
