Hand-taming

Any advice on the process of doing this? I have read a lot of things online and I was just curious to hear about people's first-hand experiences. So far I've only had Leila for 3 days. She's playing around in her cage and chirping up a storm. I sit next to her cage and talk to her. I have put my hand in her cage a few times to try to get her to step up. She seems scared and bites or runs away when my hand is near her. I know this is a process and will take time, I just want to make sure I'm on the right track!

Hand-feeding is the best way rather than using any forcing. She will get used to your hands because they bring wonderful pieces of millet spray, a favorite treat! Treat her a little bit at a time many times a day, and no millet spray in the cage (once she knows what it is and how yummy it tastes), just reserved for training sessions. Pretty soon you can encourage her to step on a still hand to reach the millet in the other hand, then slowly start moving her while she's on your hand, etc. One little step at a time and she will be a happy, trusting and loving little bird! Good luck.

thank you for the advice. I think working with her a little bit at a time is best so as to not stress her out. I definitely have to try "bribing" her with millet!

So I've managed to get Leila out of her cage a few times. She seems pretty scared, but we've been taking it slow. When she's out of her cage, I let her sit on my finger or shoulder. She has been making a few weird noises. The first one is like a very small sneeze type sound, which I hope that doesn't mean that she's sick! The second thing she does is click her tongue against her beak. Not beak-grinding, just a light clicking noise. Anyone have any idea what that means? Thanks!

i've had my beautiful love bird (sunshine) since Friday and he keep piking me too lol, then it was only on saturday when i opened his cage and he was brave enough to venture out and went on my arm and neck lol, and today he came out once again,

do you always have to get there wings clipped even if there not near a open window?
