bubbles in poop

my parrotlet is 3 months old and when I watch closely to his poop last night, I saw few bubbles in it. I checked 2 fresh poops this morning and there also few bubbles in it. The poops look normal except those bubbles (and the bubbles were gone in about 20 seconds).

Would fresh food cause these bubbles? In the last couple days, I gave him seeds, brown rice, cooked beans, brocoli, carrot, spray millet, and very small amunt of zupreem natural pellet.

Here is a basic link about poop:

Evaluating Your Birds Droppings What Bird Poop and Parrot Poop is Telling You

When in doubt it is always best to have an avian vet do a gram stain (poop test).

Just my 2 cents... my conure has bubbles in her poop sometimes... not always but sometimes there is around 5-10 bubbles that go away after a minute or so...

I asked my vet about this the last time he saw her and he said it can be stress as well that causes it.. it usually happens to us if we're having people over or something...

It's not all the time though and I have heard it can mean bad things so if it's the first time happening I would say to talk to a vet too.

Good luck!!! I hope your baby is okay!

I kind of like this site: What Your Parrot’s Poop Can Tell You since it provides lots of pictures. Avianweb also has a "poopology" page: http://www.avianweb.com/poopology.html

Bubbles can be a sign of a bacterial infection but they also occur when certain foods are eaten and when stressed... So I would look for consistant bubbles in the poop before drawing any conclusions. I know I've seen bubbles after a fair amount of fruit intake (orange/blueberry/banana) that go away quite quickly (a sign of gas I would expect).

That being said - if there is *any* concern at all then a vet visit is in order!

I agree with what the others mentioned. If in doubt best is always to consult from an avian vet.

When there's bubbles in Xaf's poop... I check the soap.

You think I'm kidding, don't you.

Actually... No... Gari will eat soap as well... For some reason she thinks it is a good treat.

Somehow the threat, "I'll wash your mouth out with soap," doesn't seem so relevant anymore...

I haven't checked for bubbles afterwards though...

You mention cooked beans - legumes can cause gas in birds which comes out as bubbles in the droppings. Only the more easily digested beans should be fed (mung, lentil, pea, garbanzo and adzuki), and they MUST be soaked overnight, soaking water discarded, rinsed well, fresh water added to the pot. Then boil (top off) for 10 minutes, cover and simmer for 20 minutes or a bit longer if needed. That helps reduce the gas.
