New member to the family!!!!

Well, today we welcomed the newest member to our family. A little baby Parrotlet!!!!
My oldest son recentally moved here with us and had to leave his mitred conure with his grandma. My son has been SO lonley!!! It has been heart breaking to say the least.
Yesterday we went to a very nice privatley owned bird store and he immediatley bonded with this lil tiny Parrotlet. They spent a long time togather and decided they loved eachother. So today after school we went and got him and all the stuff he needs. Grandma already has a care package in the mail for the new baby. I havent seen much of my kid tonight!!!! He has been in his room cuddled up with the lil baby. I personally have never seen anything sweeter than this lil bird. Shhhh. Dont tell soda pop.
My son puts his bird on top of the cage and calls it and the lil guy flys to him, {sorta} I was told his wings are clipped, he isnt getting much flight but it did startle me enough to turn off all cealing fans. I will give him a couple days to adjust and take him back to have his wings checked and maybe clipped a tad bit more.
My son is finally happy agian. He has a sweet friend. I have a feeling this is going to be one spoiled rotten lil baby. LOL
He is eating real good. I gave him a taste of the cooked corn we had for dinner and he dug right in. It was very cute.
Im afraid I will be full of questions and I hope I dont bug everyone to much!!!!

Congrats on the new baby! Curious though why he had to leave the mitred conure behind??? Unless he belongs to the grandmother???

Well its sorta long story, the mitreds name is crackers, and he is also a plucker. He came to my moms house that way and he hated everyone, cept scott. Scott was five years old and he is now 11. He had to leave him at that time simply because it was a very long drive in a budget uhaul type truck and we werent sure how crackers would deal with it. If he would of started freeking out, no one would of been able to handle him. So they decided to leave him there for a while. My mom was already supposed to of been here with crackers, but life happens and hasnt been able to get here. Our main concern is what will be in crackers best intrest. Also, Neither me or my husband can handle this bird. He has a vicious bite. Scott needed a friend now as he is so lonley here. Crackers may still come here in the future, he is currantley on pluk no more and he has feathers comming in and is actually becomming kinda kicked back. So it wasnt just cause he wasnt aloud to come, it was what could he handle and when. Its a long drive. Im sure he will also be here sometime.

That I can fully understand! I've had Noel, my cherry head since 2001, and I was only 13. For the most part, I am the only one who can actually handle her! My mother is too afraid of being bitten, and I have some friends I simply wouldn't trust handling her. I trust Noel more so around little kids who remain calm than any adult, especially men. The funny thing is, it's the same with Bullet, our dog! Noel, Casey, and Bullet all prefer woman over men, and Noel and Bullet prefer kids over adults.

I'm glad your son is feeling better with a p-let around, and I am curious as to how things will work out with Crackers! Keep us updated!

Oh Im sure if and when he gets here Ill be on here going ITS SO LOUD HERE!!!!! MY cockatoo and his conure feed off eachothers screaming. Ultimatley, if Scott wants his bird here, well, thats just what will happen, they love eachother. Crackers is a very funny bird. He screams. I want it right now!!!!LOL
IM wondering what all Im supposed to feed this lil one. Its a baby, been weaned for a week? Do I slowly introduce one thing for a while, then something else? Or, is it ok to just offer what ever Im feeding Soda pop but smaller bites? He is on all seeds right now? I dont like that. He dug into that cooked sweet corn tonight, so hopefully picky eating wont be an issue. There is a couple toys in his cage right now. Didnt want to buy to many till his care package gets here and we see what all is in there. He is playing wiith them nicley chewing and swinging. He is adorable!!!

Tell your son he has my congratulations on his new parrotlet.

However, I strongly recommend you keep all ceiling fans off when your bird is out of it's cage - even a clipped bird can get enough lift from a ceiling fan to fly up and be seriously injured. That disaster can easily be avoided.

Again, congratulations.

LOL! In all honesty, my cherry head is usually the quietest bird in the house! I often wonder if its really a bird I'm lookin at! AND a conure at that!

It should be fine to give the p-let anything you give Soda Pop just in smaller bites! Just be more careful as to how much fats, sugars, oils, and salts you give to the little one! That, and small seeds and/or pellets with the fresh foods shall be fine!
