Question Newbie with cage question

Trying to get ready for Baby-- exciting! I'm wondering about cage finish - the description says this cage is epoxy coated - is that ok?

http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Bird-Cage-Ca...QQcmdZViewItem

It has some horizontal bars, but some are vertical. Will that work ok?

Thanks
Jan

I don't know anything about the epoxy coating, but as far as horizontal vs. vertical bar spacing goes, my budgie's cage has vertical bar spacing and he is totally fine with it. I've heard so many times that that is not preferred, and we bought our cage without knowing this, but it has not seemed to matter one bit. He does occassionally climb around the cage sides and has no problem doing so (mostly he hops from perch to perch though). My tiel's cage also has vertical bar spacing only on the front panel and she has no problems climbing on that portion of her cage as well. She is more known to climb around her cage than my budgie and she does just fine as well.

Yeah thats fine, bar verticle horozontal doesnt matter, my guys ctually prefer climbing their verticle bars more then their horozontal ones, but not sure of the sage size, these guys are Amazing acrobats and need loads of room!

Epoxy coating is good...non-toxic. That's what you want. Get the largest cage you can afford with 1/2 inch bar spacing-vertical or horizontal. They need lots of room.

Small bird cages have this coating...

As far as cages go, you want to look into something that is squarish, or is longer than it is wide.... Most tall cages do not get used completely because birds prefer to spend more time at top. Besides, a longer cage gives a bird more room to fly abount than a taller cage.

When I was looking for cages for my fids they told me to make sure the cage had both vert & horiz bars. THey said it helps the bird climb better. Crystal

Yes, the largest cage with 1/2 spacing is good. I have a tall cage and toys and perches are all over it. Chipper uses every square inch! Get lots of good perches. A small concrete or other rough one, manzanita branches, rope, dowel, etc.. Nice to have several kinds. I have lots of little food dishes and I have several things out on her buffet every day.

Lots of toys, bells, swing, hut, string/wood toys. Gyms. etc. SO MUCH FUN!
