Proper way to cook Asian Medley?
I am not a good cook. I eat out because of it.
I have been trying to cook this Asian Medley for Bundy but I'm not making it right. The instructions from foryourbird.com say "Add three cups of water to two cups of mix and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and cook for 15-20 minutes or until water is absorbed." I've tried this numerous times and it comes out all mushy and overcooked. How do you guys cook this stuff? |

Yeah I think it's mushy too. I make a small amount. Sorry I dont measure lol.
I take a cereal type bowl but deeper and put about a half cup or cup of the mixture in there. Then I cover it with water about a half inch to an inch higher than the food. I put a paper towel on top but dont know if it's really necessary but I dont use a real lid. It would get too steamy and mushy then. Then I microwave it for two minutes to make it boil. Then I stop it. Then I hit defrost on my microwave it's 30 percent power. I then microwave it some more on defrost for about two to five minutes. The important part is you just let it sit after that and soak. I guess for about five minutes or so....the grains soak up the water without getting mushy. Only use a fork to toss around a bit. I taste a bit and see if it's soft. Dont use that same fork so your mouth bacteria doesnt get in the food. IF the stuff is too hard I nuke again on defrost for another minute. Sorry it's not very precise but I only make it a couple times a month. If you use the stove, do sorta the same thing but use a low flame. You could boil the water first then add the mix. Add some more water if you need to as you go. Dont stir alot just use your fork to mix up and not stick especially on a stove. Maybe try on Sat morning when you arent rushed a see how it works out using a small amount not the full servings. You can add your frozen stuff then too, after it's all finished and still warm...a small amount of peas for example they dont have to really cook just warm up...some corn...some carrots even a little bit of chopped greens when you're done. The carrots are kinda big you might wanna chop them at the end or before you add them. You can thaw in cold water just like now before you add them. |
