They really hate red!
My friend gave me a chair that I absolutely love. It is so comfortable and it feels like it was made just for me.
The problem is that the frame is black but the entire cushion is red. I'm talking dark red. Bundy adjusts quickly to everything I change in the apartment. But when I brought that chair in, he immediately started screaming. It took me the longest time to just get him out of the cage; he kept staring at that chair and wouldn't go near it. I'm going to leave it in the corner all day tomorrow, that way he can see that it's not threatening but also I'm not trying to force him to like it. If he still won't come out of the cage when I come home, I'll get rid of the chair. Has anyone heard any theories as to why they hate the color red? He acts the same way around everything that is red. He won't fly on to me if I'm wearing a red shirt. |

I suppose with small birds like that their fight or flight instinct prevails over sense sometimes.
I know Mikko goes crazy when I put soft willow heart chunks in the cage for him to chew, he always has one in the cage, and when I take the old chewed ones out, he start having an aneurysm when I put the new one in! then goes and chews them to bits five seconds later.I would imagine red means "Stay away! I has bad poisonous stuff!" to small birds. Though some appear to use it to an advantage and have it in their feather colour maybe to deter other larger birds, who knows I put a new perch in Oskar's cage earlier (red bellied macaw) as he chewed the other 3" thick branch right through in a week, and he went crazy, bouncing around the cage... screaming... you name it. I just sat there looking totally unimpressed with him tapping a finger on the branch, and he stopped, mid-hollar, looked at me, plopped himself down on it and tilted his head around a bit and gave me that look of deflated ego and defeat. "Okay okay... so it's not so bad after all..... now.... Go away so i can chew it!"
