Can I tell the age of a parrotlet?

I'm setting up an aviary for a couple of parrotlets, but sadly im having really hard time finding a nice pair. I have found two pairs in a local petshop tho, but im not very keen on buying from a petshop as opposed to a breeder with good knowlegde of the parents, how the line is and who can ensure they are not brother and sister.

Yet, it seems the only option. Are there any visual signs of age, like the bigger parrots who starts out with black eyes that gradualy turns yellow or white etc? Any opinions for or against going with the pet shop pair?

I had a very hard time in my area looking for a breeder. Either I wouldn't get a response back to my e-mails, or they didn't have the type of bird I was looking for.

I found out through here actually that a bird fair comes through my state every six or more months. I am planning on purchasing a little girlie for my male Canary at the next bird show in SC in a couple of weeks. I'll probably pick up a parrotlet, as well. As I miss having a sweetie to cuddle with, but I do love my Canary and his beautiful song!

Well, you may want to investigate to see if there is a bird fair that takes place in your state. You can always start by looking under the Bird Shows & Events section through Bird Board. That's how I found out more information regarding the bird show. You can always pick up a magazine such as Bird Talk to see if any breeders are listed. Also, you can check out the pets section in your local newspaper or do an internet search (like BirdBreeders.com).

Okay, good luck and take care.
