I don't believe it is safe to use the ionizer on air purifiers, so best to get one without - or one that has the option to turn the ionizer off. I have a Holmes brand air purifier (can't remember what model it is) running in my daughter's room. (The tiels' and 1 of the quaker's cage is in her room. It does a great job and you can really see the dust etc. it picks up on the filter. We vacuum the filter every couple of days. I'm planning on getting another 1 or 2 to run in the living room. Just picked up a smaller Holmes at a garage sale,to try out in my bedroom. It has an ionizer on it, but you can turn it off. I would definitely suggest searching air purifier into Birdboard's search. I know there's several very good, detailed threads about them.

No ionic cleaner they're bad for birds. They emit stuff in the air that sits on their feathers and bothers them. Some people have seen their birds pluck like crazy overnight the very first day. I use an IQ Healthpro Plus.

I found that since my apartment is so small, I have a real problem with feather dust and air quality. I went onto Amazon and bought a Honeywell air purifier for about $60 before shipping etc. The reason I picked it is because it has a permanent HEPA filter that you just vacuum out every now and then. I have it beside the bird cage and WOW what a difference. If I open the filter I can see all the feathers and dust that has been trapped by it.

I was in the market for a really cheap option cause tbh, the cost of the filters adds up to more than the unit's worth only after a couple of replacements.

Totally impressed with the honeywell. It also has an ionizer but I think if the small amounts of ozone can cause problems in us big hardy humans, it might be tragic for my fids. So it has a separate switch and I just leave it off.

Gazillion thumbs up. I don't know how I lived without it and I know i'll be so glad in the winter with all the windows closed.
