I need an answer...don't wanna be a hoarder!

Ok, I have my green cheek and my tiel, living in a cage together, out of cage time every day, and they are happy. Got my parrotlet just a week or so ago, only one little boy, and I ordered a flight cage for him, which will come at the end of Sept (back-ordered). Thinking of that little guy in that big cage, I wonder if he'll be lonely? The tiel and greencheek will be in the same room with him, they'll be able to see each other, etc.

I barely have time to devote to these three (but I do, don't get me wrong), so I don't want to get a 4th bird, but I still am so tempted to get another thinking that Odie will be lonely.

So, someone tell me that he'll be fine in the company of the other fids as long as I give him some lovin' every day.

I don't see a problem with it, he'll stay tame if you don't get another bird and as long as he does get some attention every day and he has toys and stuff to entertain him I think it should be fine...but if you're really worried you could get him a friend but I think he would be fine on his own, more room for him to play in then :)

Here is my opinion, for what it's worth. If you work full time, and your little parrotlet is by himself, and still a baby...I would consider another parrotlet buddy for him. Parrots are very social animals. Parrotlets in particular live with their immediate family and friends in the wild. However, know that your baby will likely become less tame and more bonded to the other bird. If it's important for you to have this baby be your buddy, then you may not want to get another. If you were home all day, I could understand this. However, knowing the situation, if it were me, I'd get him a birdy buddy. Know that 2 parrotlets need a BIG cage though - they can be tempermental and sometimes need their space. A minimum size of an HQ Flight Cage would be good. It's very reasonably priced. Good luck with your decision!

Would it be ok to get a budgie friend for him? Or would it need to be a parrotlet?

I'm very new to Parrotlets, so am by no means an expert. However, everything I have read has said never to pair a parrotlet with another species. Parrotlets are notorious for aggression against other species, even Budgies and Cockatiels or birds larger than them. I think they're a bit big for their birdie britches. :) I'd say get another parrotlet. Just know there is no guarantee they'll get along though....I think if they are both babies, you have a better chance of harmony.

Yeah, I think you're right! Chico, my tiel, decided to check out Odie's food today...Chico is 4 of Odie, but that didn't bother my little blue boy. (This gives a new meaning to "bluetooth"...or should I say "beak"). Yup, I'll keep my parrotlet solo, and they will just be friends from a distance. The baby green p'lets will be ready to go any day, but the money really needs to go to much more urgent needs right now. Odie is starting to come out of his shell a bit more and is climbing and playing and checking out stuff all over the place. I think he'll be ok without a pal. Thanks to everyone for your input, it was really helpful!

If you have other birds then your little guy will be fine and will entertain himself well, trust me -I have LOTS of parrotlets and others. YOU WILL most probably lose your "pet" if you give him a parrotlet buddy and will most probably the same with another species as well.
