Question breeder central fl?...also posted in general

I have been looking everywhere for a good quality breeder, but have had very poor luck. I want socialized, tame, young/baby parrotlet. but everywhere i look there are none available or the price is outrageous. I went to a bird show earlier this month, and the prices there were 1/3 of what im finding now. I would have bought a bird that day, but my purse was stolen the day before and money/ credit card/debit was taken.. so i had no money that day. The sad thing is, I had purchased all my stuff (cage, made DIY toys, food..everything) expecting to purchase a bird that day..

So i was wondering if anyone on here might know a breeder in central fl, that is good quality, and that is not charging so much? Im not looking for anything special. preferably a male. just has to be tame, friendly and a bird that will fit in my family Im not picky about the color, just the personality(even though I do think blue or yellow is beautiful)

thank you
stephanie

Where are you in Central Fl? I know a reputable exotic shop (where I got my boys) and their parrotlets are adorable and in good health. They are not cheap (no punn intended), but I truly believe you get what you pay for.

Be very careful about purchasing a bird from a bird show or expo. Sometimes the best breeders are not there. Many really responsible breeders refuse to go to those types of shows due to other irresponsible breeders bringing in sick babies, etc. I go to them to purchase toys and food at cheaper prices, but NEVER take my boys because of possible diseases from others birds at the show and when I get home, I change clothes and wash my arms and hands with antibacterial soap. If I purchase toys that can be washed, they get washed and sterlized before my boys play with them. Maybe I'm a little overprotective, but I must be doing something right. I have two very happy, healthy macaws.

I hope someone can help you. Hang in there! What cage do you have?

I agree, I wash carefully after a bird show, but now I have just stopped going. I have been to two in past years, but now I worry too much to go. I want my Chipper to stay healthy.

I live in deltona area, but I am willing to drive just about any where to find the right one.
well im am not looking for one that is cheap, just not 500.00.lol. Im well aware that they are expensive little birdies(for ther size). :) I did meet a breeder at the bird show that breeds them in small clutches, and was very hands on with the birds. They were SOO friendly and you could just tell she was a good breeder. her prices were reasonable, compared to other vendors there. her selection was limited as she is a small breeder that seems to not be about the money, and more about the quality. She seemed to really like raising them.

You guys have a good point on the bird shows and the possiblitly of sick bird..I didnt really think about it before, I do see your point. Now I will be extra careful when I do go, if I do go...

I dont know what "kind" of cage I have..lol..it's fairly large. I would say it's about 3 feet in width, 2 feet deep and about 2 1/2 feet high. I've already made various toys...I made a boing, a atom ball, and some other toys to chew on. im currently making a cage cover and a stand with a net and other toys. Oh this bird will be spoiled!! lol

This is not my first bird, but it is my first pet bird. I used to take in injuryed abandoned birds/animals and rehabilitate them. These were wild birds/animals, and once ready they either went back into the wild or they were adopted by zoos or individuals that used them for educational purposes. Unfortunatly, I no longer have the time/money I need in order to take care of animals around the clock any more...:(

Currently my pets include 2 very spoiled ferrets. Named Me'ka and Chole. Which against popular belief, they do not smell. :) I have them on a all natural diet, which I truly believe is the reason they're not smelly!

Interesting about your abandoned birds, etc.

Glad your ferrets do not smell. They usually do, ha. They are so cute. Do they take things and hide them?

OMG!!! YES!!!

They are little theives. They take there toys, along with most other things they can move and hide it under stuff....it's funny b/c I'll forget and I'll think to myself "I thought they had more toys?" or i'll be at the pet store and see a cute toy and think that they dont have enough to play with and buy it, but when I clean under my bed/dressor...I think " oh my the have too many toys!"
