My new birdie

Hi everyone - I'm so glad I've found this site. There is so much information stored in all these pages! I'll be spending lots of time looking through all this.
It's been about 10 years since my last bird, which was a lori. This is so different.

Well I got Frankie yesterday, I was told she is 5 weeks old, she's eating seeds and millet like crazy but I've yet to see her drink any water. I'm still hand feeding her too twice a day. She's really friendly so far, and has started chirping, I love the way it sounds. So much nicer than the squawk of a lori.

Anyway I was wondering if anyone has any tips, is there anything specific you tell to anyone that's interested in getting birds that you think they should know? How much longer do you think I'll have to continue hand-feeding her for? I had a ton of questions, and now I can't remember them...well I guess that's all for now, but I'm sure I'll be back. Thanks everyone.

Check out talkparrotlets.com It is a great p'let website.

As for hand-feeding, odds are she will eventually not want any formula. she'll run away from it and eat the other foods.

As for diet, I would look into offering her veggies, sprouted seeds, cooked legumes and some fruit. A seed only diet is very unhealthy. And she's young, so now is the time to start introducing fresh foods :)

Thanks - I did find that talk parrotlet forum the other day. It has a lot of great information. I've tried giving her fresh corn on the cob and romaine lettuce so far but she doesn't want anything to do with it yet.

Now I'm on a mission to find the safety information on toys I can make myself for her.

As skthurley said

I suggest broccoli, cauliflower, peas, carrots sprouted seeds, cooked legumes and some fruit etc more than corn and lettuce since neither of them have any outstanding nutritional value.

Try adding the veggies in with the seed that she is eating. Slowly decrease the amount of seed and increase the veggies.

You could also try a small bird pellet mix this will also have better nutritional value.

If you have a small food processor, use that to cut up the veggies in small bits. If you don't have one they sell for about $10.00 It will save your fingers trying to cut up the veggies small enough.

BTW welcome to the forum!

Frankie is adorable! And I may or may not have seen you over at Talk parrotlets. You got some good advice above on diet.
