Unhappy EMMA is still the same :(

i`ve recently adapted a new pet which is a parrotlet, i named her emma. It`s my first time to have a pet social bird so i am very new to this but i researched a lot before deciding to buy one. I bought it from a breeder which was hand-fed. I`m very attached to her already, I think it doesn`t seem to be afraid of me cause it would perch on my finger and it is not afraid to take some treats from my hand. but i`m am very worried cause it is not very active and very quite. It doesn`t move very much in the cage, usually it would just stay in one place. Even outside of the cage, where ever i leave it, it would stay in that same position for hours. She would also have these random bursts of energy like running all over the place and chirping then after awhile she would go back to her quite self again but this barely happens. what does this mean and why does it happen? is this a good thing or sign? I`ve heard parrotlets are very playful but mine barely plays or walks around. I also try to train him through clicker training but she doesn`t cooperate. Is there something wrong? or is she not comfortable yet with her new home? its already been a week since i`ve had her. Please please help, thanks!

Ive had my parrotlet Oliver for over 3 months and he is still like your little Emma. He is generally quiet and to himself, he is happy in one corner of the cage and prefers to preen or take naps most of the time. At first I too thought this was a problem but over time I came to realize thats just who he is. Not all parrotlets are going to play and be very active, just like all African Greys arent going to talk. Not every bird is the same, especially in their personality! I think at this stage too, your Emma is still getting used to her surroundings and to her new home. Give her some time and just be patient with her. She will come around with time, she just needs to get used to everything!! That being said, she just might be one of those birdies that are quiet in general and enjoy playing alone in their cage rather than out of their cage. I have a play stand for Oliver that he's out on during the day so he DOES get some out of cage time and he has plenty of toys inside of his cage.

I dont think there's anything wrong with your Emma - she might just be a little shy! Just give her some time and watch her to make sure she is eating and drinking, those are very important. Keep us posted!

I've had Pickie for over a year, and he's just a mellow little bird, preening, singing and just a tiny bit of playing...but, over time he is getting more comfortable. My theory is, since the life span of these birds is 20 yrs. or so....give him extra love and attn. and nothing scary for a good long time....just sweet treats and fun and love.....I think they're smart enough to learn tricks later after they get totally comfortable with you.
