For a lovebird, bar spacing of up to 5/8" and a bar diameter of 4mm is fine as long as that's the max, though parrotlets are smaller than budgies (though p-lets do have a stockier build). It might not be too bad in the end...

You want 1/2 inch bar spacing or smaller 3/8 inch is best for parrotlets. They should be able to climb around the cage easily, being able to grasp the bar with one foot while the other is on the bar below it. 5/8 inch is too big a gap for parrotlets.
