Question giving presentations with birds.

I'm not sure if this falls under this catagory or if I should have stuck it under something else. Feel free to move it Mods!

I want to go to the different schools and talk to the kids about birds and their care. I could use some advice on what to talk about! My macaw and my cockatiel will be perfect for this. How many of you do this and what do you talk about?

I go along with bird club's. I am not sure how to go about it with out them. Or if they allow that.
We talk about where our bird come's from. What it takes to care for them, hopefully they get loud to share :)
What they eat, how messy they are.

Sadly some schools will not allow you to come, either due to time issues for scheduling something like this or they just don't support animals coming to visit. I think they think it's more of a liability When we lived in Carlsbad, NM last year they told me this, needless to say they are backwards thinking there (no offence) and why we ended up moving back here. I think having a visual live animal helps reinforce what they are learning...something they will never forget, IMO. Any school that would stop me from bringing my bird, would be one my kids WOULD NOT be going to, lol.

Start with your child's class if you have one in school. You can do it for the entire grade level, and trust me, once word gets out, they will want you to come back again. Kids see me coming, they know me and the next question is "When Liberty is coming to visit again?".

Look for that PM soon, and my webpage will get ya going with general topics. Older kids you can add more detailed info, which is more academic. That is what you try to reach when doing presentations to schools, they love that

Ahhh yes, Retirement homes are a great place to visit!! When I visited our local home, they had a blast! Of course tons of questions too, but you run into some that have had birds in the past. They enjoy sharing that as well.

Nursing homes are great too. I visited a lady that was unresponsive for the most part to people, but when she saw Liberty, her eyes grew bigs, and she didn't have to say a word...her eyes said it all

I just finished adding some recent pics from my last presentation I did for a pre-school. Thought I'd share

Hubby had the day off and took some pics & video for me. Will get video up soon. Too bad he didn't get too many of the kids expressions (or didn't show up well/cut off), and mainly focused on me & Liberty, lol. Will get some of those next one I do.
