Aww, poor thing. That sounds so cute that her mate takes care of her like that and files it down for her. Hes a keeper hehe!

I assume that if she was "born this way", it probably means that one of her parents may have bitten her beak off.. although it is possible it is a birth defect, too... Either way, she's one gorgeous bird!

I am new to this site, and think it is absolutely wonderful!! I am thinking of getting a mustache parakeet. Are they a semi quiet bird? I have a gcc...and she/he is a very quiet outgoing bird and just a lover, but does like to nip!! I think the mustache parakeets are beautiful and hear they are very intelligent is that true?

Moustache Parakeets can be loud, not like a large conure, but still not silent either. They are wonderful birds though they tend to bond to one person. VERY VERY smart! Mine had a vocab that could rival most greys! But some never talk, just really depends on the bird. They love to chew so plenty of wood is a must, they are prone to plucking so LOTS of toys in a BIG cage are needed! I think they are great and for some reason very underestimated for pets!

it depends on what you call loud.....my moustached can be sorta loud when they wanna be, but, i adore their little noises, so i love hearing them :) they make quiet, little purry-chattery noises, and then louder noises that kinda sound like a cute little doggie or something, hard to describe. of course it doesnt hurt the fact that they are the most adorable little birds, they are extremely cute, and have a personality to match even though mine are paired off, they still LOVE human attention, they call for us and yell for us, run to the fronts of their cages, and they step up to get some lovin's

RE: Mustache

Oh my, Intelligent is an understatement when it comes to my mustache. They are wickedly smart. "Cricket" is loud at times, the normal morning and evening, and she gives out an intruder alert when anyone comes in the aviary. She loves to chew anything and everything, lol. By far an awesome bird

Do they have more of a gravelly voice or a squawky voice? And how big of a cage do you recommend? They are so beautiful!!

ooo, go with the biggest cage you can afford. Cricket is in a Free flight 20 x 20 room, And goes to bed at night in a 3 ft. high 2 x 2 ft cage. Thier flying is so precise and beautiful, wonderful grace and accuracy. Definetly a deep throuted voice, I would much rather have cricket go off on my shoulder than her sister the Sun Conure, aauurrgg.
