Red face feeding dish

I am getting a quaker. I was wonding if you feed them out of the dishes that comes with the cage or a bowl sitting on the floor? Does a quaker pick their food up with their beak or the claws to eat.

Use the cage cups. Food dishes on the bottoms of cages often wind up with bird droppings in them. Congrats on your quaker. I have one and he's the silliest bird I own.

I normally buy food dishes as I haven't really boughten any cages that came with food dishes... I have gotten birds though that came with cage and accessories...

It's better though if the food is at the level of the perches, the door, or at mid heighth in the cage so that poop doesn't get into them... I've been using plastic dishes that hang by metal off the side of the cage bars... cept for Noel and Casey who have one crock dish, and a plastic food container for a dish... works out well!

Congrats on the quaker! They really are sweeties.
I have to check the water dishes frequently as my quakers like to bathe in their dishes; I no sooner change the water and their butts are in there bathing!
Again, congrats!

It will be 5 weeks before i get my quaker as the breeder is weaning it. I am really looking forward to bringing it home. Thank you for the help.

My tiels name is PJ. He is almost 4 months old and doing really good. He eats at the table with us 3 times a day. When he is done eating he climbs upon my shoulder and cleans his beak on my shirt. He has tried to fly twice and made two crash landing. He flew 3 more times and did really good at his landing.

Awesome choice! Quakers rock! Your question really should be "should I buy fine China or melemime plates?" as the Quaker will eventually decide that YOUR dinner is more interesting than his and insist on sharing with you!

My breeders will come out of the cage while my wife is eating in the living room and fly over to her shoulder and attack her fork as she is eating. It is really quite comical!
