I am only hoping to eventually house them together, only because Max has a cage big enough for 3 or 4 birds his size, but if we cant then that is not a problem either.

Thanks for the help and if you think of other ideas in small parrots please let me know.

as far as sweetness, you cant go wrong with a meyers or red belly :) they are very sweet, not prone to biting, and they are extremely outgoing. our babies always jump on strangers to say hi, lol, and they are very silly playful little birds. they even stay sweet as they go through puberty. but, they have more of a raspy voice, its not real clear like an african grey or amazon. and there is a catch, you have to find a baby that was properly socialized while handfeeding, i cannot stress this enough.

i would not recommend an amazon cause they can be very nippy and bitey, esepcially when they go through puberty, and they tend to be more of a one person bird.

quakers can be good too, but, most of them get really cage territorial, meaning they will viciously protect their cage, toys and food dishes, by biting, hard too.

i dont know much about most conures, but if you get a chance, check out patagonian (patties) conures. they are awesome!! i just love them, very sweet and social, they have cute voices, but as with any conure, they can be very loud. they dont have the shrill screech that a sun conure has, its a different noise that patties have, i dont find their noises annoying though :) they bond really strongly to their people though, if you get a young one that was socialized with many people, the bird should go to both of you :)

Caging two birds together is risky and should only be done if the birds are really bonded which may mean they seek less interaction with you. That being said,I have seen three different sun conures caged with quakers that got along great.Quakers also have a better probability of talking than most.I wouldn't trust my sun conure with a tiel or budgie for five seconds, but Monica[moderator]has a mitered conure that's in love with one of her tiels.

The best small parrot talkers are budgies (parakeet is broader name for them, but not all parakeets are budgies) - their vocabulary can rival greys, eclectus, and amazons. Most people don't know or believe that, but most people don't take the time to really bond with budgies. One of my budgies has a vocab of nearly 200 words and he speaks in phrases and sentences.

But as others have said, I would be very hesitant on housing different species together - or even birds of the same species for that matter. Leave it up to the birds to decide if they want to live together. And for some birds, once maturity hits, it may not be a good idea to house different species together.

And no bird is guaranteed to talk, some simply do not feel the need to communicate through human words. If you go into this expecting your bird to talk, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

They dont have to be housed together, thats no big deal. If they deside they like each other and want to be together than they can. If not, fine with me.

If whatever we choose doesnt talk, thats fine also. But would like to get one with the possibility.

We are going to see a 7 month old red headed amzon or I think also known as a green cheek amazon and a Mini Hans Macaw, this one is 10 yrs old, but it sounds like it comes from a good home, will see them tomorrow. Both come with there own large cages, so housing is not a problem.

Okay, so the Mexican Redheaded Amazon. . .and the sun conure. . .my fiance works at an exotic pet store while he's student teaching, and the owners breed and handfeed all of the (bigger) birds they sell at the store (I think they have another breeder for the parakeets and finches), so every one of them is sweet and loving. They currently have 4 MRH Amazons who are sweet as pie and one BEAUTIFUL sun conure I've named Tequila Sunrise. The conure was raised and handfed with the 4 Amazons and a Congo African Grey The conure HATES the Amazons. They're a bit big and pushy for him/her. They get into his area and try to cuddle and eat with him, and he's just not having it. He'll squawk and scream until someone comes and removes the Amazons. But, he'll sit quietly in the same area with the Grey. MUCH different personality.

Now, I think if you're going for a sweet, talkative bird, the MRH might be good for YOU. But I wouldn't count on your sun conure ever warming up to it. It's kind of like a mini macaw and a greenwing. One is just TOO big and active for the other to feel comfortable around it.
