Pair of Aussie Kings

hi all,

i have just moved houses, and the new aviaries are starting to pop up this weekend

i already have a few ideas for new fids, like bluebonnets, more kaks of course, pheasants, lovebirds, more bourke mutants, green winged pigeons, and so fourth.
(not all in the same aviary of course!)

but recently at a bird club meeting, a mate has offered me a pair of aussie king parrots , but i dont know if i shoud go for it?
any suggestions or opinions would be great,

There was a young male Aussie King at a store around here for well over a year.
I visited him often & really wished we could have added him to our family.(IMHO, the price was way too high & the manager was a jerk).

The bird finally found a home, but only after he was sent to another store. LOL! as proof to the unreasonable mindset of that manager - the bird was bought by someone that used to work at the store he was at for so long. She had tried to work out some deal or payment scheme for quite a while, but that jerk boss just kept saying NO.
Sad that the bird had to be transferred to another store for it to get to a good home.

So far, every single Aussie King I've ever met has been a very friendly bird. They're very smart, capable of talking, not velco, but love attention from their people.
Of course the first attractor is that beautiful plumage.
Ya know, I can't even think the 2 words "Beautiful Plumage" anymore without having the theme from Monty Python suddenly started playing in my head.
(LOL! "Beautiful Plumage on the Norwegian Blue!" & the sound fades from my mind just before it goes into the "Lumberjack" skit. )

Anyway....
That magnificent coat of brilliant Red, Green & Blue primary colors on the male is a real eyecatcher.

They are beautiful birds. I don't know much about them but would love to learn. I've seen them on line several times and of course they always catch my eye. Let us know what you decide. If you do take them, please share your experience with the rest of us. :)

I met one in the wild, even though it was just a wild King Parrot, he flew over to strangers, and I was able to hand feed him seeds, bought by one of the locals just to feed the native birds. (I know it's probably not the best for the wild birds shoosh)

So thats the only one I met (oh and he had a wife who flew over later).
I suppose it could be a new and exciting experience they seem to be friendly social birds.

Here's some info about caging them in an aviary/companion birds.
And some other information about King Parrots.

GRAB THEM AND RUUUUN! lol
Sounds like a great opportunity, given that you're well-versed when it comes to birds of all sorts. Mostly depends on you.
Personally? I think you're more than mature enough to make this decision yourself, AND I think you'd be a wonderful owner for those Kings :}
That said, I'm posting six months after this thread was made, so I'm assuming you know by now XD

Might it just depend on the state/territory???

I seem to recall a member from a long time ago who lived in Australia, N.S.W - to be a bit more specific. She has owned 2 Australian King Parrots.

The the USA and Canada, it is not illegal to keep or breed these birds, but they certainly are not common!
