HAWKHead Parrot???

Has anybody ever known one? I have always been interested in them but have never met anyone close enough to learn about them as pets. I KNOW they have attitude and are NOT for the first time bird owner. I'm more curious than anything......

Sorry, I can't help you, but I've been curious about hawkhead personalities, too. I'm not looking to get one - I just think they're really cool, and I'm curious about them. I'd love to meet one someday, though.

I have a little. I've handled one at the store I go to. The owner lets me socialize with her personal flock. They're little pistols. You're right they can have an attitude. They tend to have Napoleon syndrome. LOL And man are they loud! Just as loud as my Newt. For such a little body, boy can they scream. the babies are a riot! They sound like rapid fire machine guns when they're hand-feeding. They kind of remind me of Scarlets with their sensitivity. They're a little slower to trust and need some soft words and cuddles, and get their feelings hurt like Scarlets from what I've noticed.

I too spent alot of time with one in a pet store, came very close to bringing "Tony" home, but at the time $2500.00 was completely out of reach...LOL. Did get attached though. They are very hyper little birds. They will challenge you in a heartbeat. Yes, they do get loud and are quite demanding. Takes some work to get them to settle down enough to cuddle. When you hit the "fuzzy spot"... those crown feathers come up and wow... they are pretty. The colors are amazing. I know they require a larger than normal cage for a bird their size and they are quite acrobatic. They like to be up high...I agree with the Napolean Syndrome description completely. Once you wear them out, they are quite cuddly and sweet. The one I was able to acquaint myself with was fully flighted... and a handful. I have been told that once you get passed 6-9 months of age, they settle down a bit. Would love to have one. There are some good videos on You Tube.

I think they are one of the most beautiful and unique birds out there. Although, I could never own one, with the price tag being $2,000 plus. Another bird I love is the Ruppell's parrot, a poicephalus, I think they are gorgeous, but I don't know much about them.

Hi, Gary and I have a pair, their names are Shemya and Attu. We had them flown to us to land the same day, brought them home and they were in love in 5 minutes. The are adorable birds and the majority of the time are great, but they can adopt an attitude quickly, raise their head dress and hiss. We know to leave them alone and give them time to calm down. In our house it happens mostly when they are jealous of another bird or startled for some reason. They are fully flighted and we get them out and fly on their own special time. They eat the same diet as our macaws with less fat and they have the cutest sounding chirps.
