Smile Thinking of adopting a lineolated parakeet Please Read

Hi,

I am may be adopting a linny. She is three years old. Here is what I know about her so far:

She is 3 years old banded '06, very tame she does not bite but is a little flighty. She would need to be handled daily to reduce and eliminate this. She is very sweet and likes to hang upside down in her cage, she's very funny! Her diet now consists of a high quality cockatiel seed mix and a variety of fresh foods also. She loves lettuce, green peppers, grapes and broccoli. She also eats carrots, peas, and fresh corn. Basically anything that you can think of to give her she would probably eat, she would at least give it a try.

She is very quiet, less noisy than a budgie. I have not heard her talk. I got her from a breeder in Milwaukee. She comes with a cage and the toys that are in it. She gets about an hour out of her cage a day. She would get more, but that is about all i can handle since she likes to fly away. She is very flighty so will try to get away from you, but does stay on a playstand if left alone.

How hard is it to tame down one thats afraid of people. Also (not that is is important) is she to old to speech train?

Thanks

I personally would start by clipping her wings a bit to slow her down then after she learns to trust you and that being with you is fun and produces treats then if you want you can always let them grow back. Im not talking a sever clip - just enough to allow her to flutter downwards but not up and fly away. Flighted birds are harder to get settled.

Each bird is different in how fast they adjust. Just give her choices and reward good behavior and do not force interaction.

Linnies are adorable! One of these days I'm going to finally get one...

Females aren't known for speech. I don't think that's a hard and fast rule but the few chatty linnies that I've heard of have been primarily male.

Did you end up adopting her?

This is my linnie! I didn't back out at the last minute, I just didn't have any use for the things that you wanted to trade for her. Besides, most of the things were not worth even close to what I was asking for her (which is a steal by the way). Also, it's difficult to pay rent with a playstation 1

how much are you asking for her?
So many people forget this fact, once it leaves the breeder it aint worth twat. Much like when you drive a new car off the lot.

I was only asking $150 for her which includes her cage which I spend over $200. Considering I did not get her from a breeder, this is over half of what I spent on her alone.

Interesting. What do you mean ypou didn't get her from a breeder? You told me you got her from a breeder in Milwaukee..... Unless that was a lie just like saying you didn't want to trade for more birds. And now you have an ad on craigslist that says you will trade for a green cheek or a ciaqe. Also now in your ad you say that she I very tame and loves to be held. When you told me she is flighty. I just think your a liar and your true colors are coming out.
