Kakariki... Post your photos!
I met one for the first time today and it was a charming little bird. What is their personality like? Activity level?
Post your photos and stories!!

Rosa and toby are very cute! What beautiful photos too! Bathtime is great! Are they red-crowned ones? Do they like preening toys or chewy ones or bells?

thanks! they are red fronted. They like preening toys and toys that have movement. They have a globe with holes in it with toys on the inside and outside that they climb all over on. They don't attack bells or anything just like to climb all over stuff and preen. They like the palm and very soft rope. Straw, not big chewers of wood. They like sleeping in tube shaped fleece covered beds, and like a circular preening swing. Mostly they just hope around like crazy and are not at all shy. When I first got them they were very shy but now not at all.

Really like the photos, especially the first one! :) Kakariki activity level? Let's just say I've never seen one stand still, lol. XD They sound like goats to me.

It's very hard to get pictures because their always moving! I can get Rosa to stay on my shoulder for maybe 5 minutes as I'm feeding them, but Toby can't stay still more than a minute at best. I think they would do very well in an aviary, It would be fun to let them have a couple clutches and have a bunch of them hopping around outside and being able to go in there and have them all over you giving kisses. I saw a post on a kakariki forum from someone who didn't hand feed them and they all swarmed him with kisses when he went into feed them. They are instinctively curious and friendly. Even though they have short attention spans they are still friendly and lighthearted. They strike me more as my naughty friends, hoodlums or thieves among my flock. They are a great way to forget about any cares and wories you may have. They are very independent though, not for someone who wants an intense give and take or needy hands on bird.

It sounds like they are very brave little things! I guess because in nature they would not have any native mammal predators so they have less to worry about. Until stoats (like a weasel?) were introduced.
Anyone else have piccies?
