Seriously considering a Pionus

Yeah...I was able to easily hold one at a bird shop on Sunday and it was the nicest andmost behaved bird I've seen. If there's anything anyone can tell me about this species, either good or bad. That would be great! As of right now I'm going to start saving for one. The one at the bird shop was $500 and a white cap. I almost put some money down on him but didn't b/c I don't have the money. Thanks for ANY input you have!

only thing i know about the pionus species is that they are usually very gentle and when they get frightened by something, they make a wheezing sound.

I have a white cap, and he is the sweetest bird ive owned. He is quiet..not messy, and loves just to hang out with us. Im glad we did alot of research before buying a larger bird. He definitely fits into our lives far better than the macaws, or other birds that are alot more active and talkative.

Here are some pictures I took of Murlin tonight.

IMHO, Pionus are a great choice if you are looking for a medium sized parrot.
They are fairly quiet (as far as parrots go).
As has already been stated- yes, when they get upset, they start to "wheeze". It can be somewhat unnerving when it happens, but maintaining your own calm & talking gently with your bird can go a long way to restoring it's composure.
Most enjoy contact with their people (as ya can see), but they don't need to be constantly cuddled.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is Pionus do have a slight musky odour. It vaguely reminds me of the pet Ferret I had years ago, but Pi scent is nowhere near as strong.
