Paco

Hi,

I thought I would introduce my new member of the family Paco to the pionus board.
His name is Paco and he is a Maximilian Pionus.
He is at least seven years old, no ring and has had two known previous homes. He lived in a small cage 20x25 inch all his life and is cage aggressive.
I find him to be a very pleasant bird. He likes human company, his head scratched and pretzels. He has been on a seed diet and I am trying to introduce him to new foods. So far he has not touched any fresh foods or the pellets I offered him. There were four boys in the household where he grew up with and I noticed that he is scared of kids. Hopefully that will change. Other than that he is pretty mellow and quiet. He is a wonderful bird already and I can only imagine how great he will be with some patience and time.
I still need to get him vet checked and then I would like to introduce him to my greys. Ideally they will all get along!
Here is a pic!

Thank you!

I am so happy that Paco joined our lives. He has such a nice character and sometimes I would just love to take him out and cuddle and kiss him all over like I do with my greys.
I know that it will take time but Paco is such a great bird.
I feel bad that he is alone and I am playing with the idea of getting him a friend. But first I would like to get him vet checked and if he clears introduce him to my birdies. Maybe he will be just as happy with their company and human interaction. I just see how nicely Pepper and Slinky (my greys) interact with each other and I wish to see the same with Paco. But as of now there is no rush. He has to settle first and his personality needs to develop. I am really fond of the Pionus species.
Well, here are some more pics.

He goes crazy over pretzels. Of course he only gets a small piece every other day and the salt is removed. But that seems to be the one thing he gets very excited over.

He's very beautiful. I once saw a Bronze Winged Pionus that I really wanted, but I was worried his big beak might do some damage to my cockatiels if they ever got in a scuffle.

hehe. . . coming from big parrots, I didn't understand what you meant at first by the pionus' "big beak." We are looking to get a White Capped, but we're worried our ekkies' big beak might do him too much damage
