Question Me again! This time questions about white capped

After falling in love with the Maxi I wanted and not being able to get him, I have really been looking at a pionus for my new bird. I was looking on CL tonight and someone has a male and female white capped on there for a very decent price. They have listed other birds on there before and no one has ever complained about them. By the tone of the ad it seems like they got the birds hoping to breed them but the birds don't get along and they said they got them both from people who had them as pets.
Here is what the ad says:

Female white capped pionus Tame for most people.
She does not like to step up so would need help learning.
Zoe will let you pet her head and wings.
She will come out of the cage right away to greet you and put her head down.
Zoe has no bad habits and is in great feather-Pionus for the most part are quiet.

Male white capped pionus needs some work to earn your trust.
he likes women more so than men. he is a beautiful big boy.
He talks up a storm, These two do not like each other as of now.

You will need cages for them both as they do not come with cages.
They are pretty quiet and very fun to listen too- what a riot.
HAVE BIRD EXPERIENCE-Must be 18 or older or have parent consent.
I will meet within reason.
please e-mail for more info will reply promptly.

There were pics of both birds as well.

I emailed and they got back to me pretty quick. I asked about the male (for some reason "needs some work" always makes me fall in love, lol) and he said that the male is tame, just takes a little while to trust. Then went on to say that the female will probably settle in more quickly and he doesn't know how long it would take for the male to settle in or how he would react to me initially. My question is, which bird would be best to get for a first time pionus owner?
I guess I went for the male a bit quicker because I figure the female is more likely to find a home faster and the male might not find one where someone is really willing to work with him. I have no problems with being patient and dealing with the trust so that doesn't bother me. The only thing is that they live in on the Iowa/Minn. border so it is a bit of a drive to see the birds first but it seems like they are being pretty honest. I guess I just figure if they were going to lie, wouldn't they just say they are both friendly, happy birds that love everyone??
What does everyone think and is there anything else I should consider that I am missing? I'm sure there is, but it's late so I'll probably think of it tomorrow....

ask about vet records... you already have birds, and it would make life a lot easier if you'd know about their previous health history.
i see your motivation in going for the male (that's how i ended up with nino), but think about it carefully. you might end up with a bird that you can only look at for months (that's where i'm at with nino LOL). if you are certain that you have the patience and time, i'd go with the male.
check on the prices for cages, as you might have to oder them before you go to see them / pick one up. also, ask for a phone number and talk to the people on the phone - helps a lot to get an idea.

how much do they want if you don't mind me asking.

edit: did i mention that WCPs are my favorite birds - *sigh* one day, i'll come across one that needs me

I know I have the patience, and the time. That is the one thing that doesn't worry me at all. I did ask about vet records and they said they brought them to the vet and will fax me the records tomorrow. I already have a cage so that is covered and I am going to call them tomorrow. They are asking $200 for the female and $175 for the male. We will see how it goes when I talk to them tomorrow!

I have a female WC Pi. Love her to death. She can be a bit "witchy" at times, but all in all she is the sweetest bird I've ever seen, towards ME. She doesn't like my daughter but will step up for her ONLY if she's not on her cage. I'm the only on who can get her off of the cage.

I've heard that both the female and male can be equally nasty when it comes to hormones, so far, Jeze has been thru 2 seasons and has thankfully never laid an egg, but she does have an annoying mating song.

I have a few pix and videos of her on my website, the link is below.
