Max

Max is the white capped pi that I saw advertised as a conure on cl. He was in a tiny filthy cage. I didnt want another bird but couldnt bear to see him in those conditions, so I bought him. The guy who delivered him was covered in earrings, including his lips, which must have had at least 20 rings. He brought Max in a duffel bag and said the bird had no name and that Max was not tame. Max was quaranteened at my friend's house. She was thinking of keeping him, but got a new dog and two new birds in the interim and it is too much for her. She made great strides with Max while she had him.

I picked Max up from her today. It took some time to get him out of the traveling cage and into the big cage once home. I was suprised at how much he wanted to be near me. I am hoping this is a good sign? He would cling to the edge of the traveling cage closest to my face. If I moved to the other side, he would follow. He would occasionally lunge, but they were fake bluffs. Twice he let me scratch his head through the bars! He also took food from my hand. I finally got him into the big cage on a perch. He very calmly clung to it while I put him in the cage. Again, he clung to the side of the cage near my face while I spoke softly to him. I plan to take it easy with Max and let him adjust for several days. I will just keep talking to him through the bars, which he seems to like. After being stuck in the small cage for so long, I think he developed some cage territorial issues.

This all happened at night and I dont think my caique has a clue that there is a new bird in the house. He is insanely jealous of new birds, and tomorrow I am sure all hell will break loose! Max is being kept by a large courtyard window so that he can watch the wild birds. Unfortunately, my conure and caique are on the other side of the courtyard, and so can see Max from across the courtyard. I am going to try to find a new home for Max, but I am in no hurry. I feel like he deserves some rest after moving so much.

I am hoping these are all good signs for Max.
