Question about Pionus noises

Well, the one thing I don't like about new birds is that I don't know if the noises are normal or not Monty is great and I absolutely adore him alreadybut I have a question about some of the noises he makes. During the day he will make this kind of sneezy/wheezy noise but it's really short and it's not his breathing and not a sneeze. I know that they wheeze when they are scared or excited but this is something that he does almost all day long except for when he is relaxed but it's not at regular intervals. Sometimes it's a lot and other times hours will go by with no noise and he never makes it at night at all. Is this normal, something I should be worried about or could it be something he just picked up? I never heard him make it when I went to see him at his old home. He has a vet appt. scheduled but I couldn't get in for 2 weeks.
Also, he makes this kind of cooing noise (best way I can describe it). At first I thought he was making it cuz he was happy or content but today he made it after he got scared and I picked him up (of course he was happy then). It's really cute! He also makes little grunting noises when he wants something. He will lean toward what he wants and grunt, lol.

Yes, that is a noise he suddenly made today for the first time and it is so cute! He has stopped making the sneezy/wheezy noise so I think it was just a nerves since I haven't heard him make it all day.

Its funny. My baby Amazon makes a similar noise. Sounds like she is laughing. I think my friend and I will get a table at the Medina Ohio bird expo. She has four baby White Caps!!

If I can ever find a pair of pionus I am going to scoop them up. There is 1 breeder in MN and they are way down by the Iowa border. He is finally coming out of his shell a bit more today and is making me fall in love with him more and more (if that's at all possible). He is sooo snuggly and loves to have his eyelids rubbed (strange, I know) but when you do it he opens his beak up a little and makes this little purring/cooing noise. I also discovered that he really, really likes wood. He makes splinters out of bigger wood pieces in no time and has almost completely destroyed a whole wood toy I had. He LOVES foot toys which I find funny since she implied that he didn't like foot toys or wood, lol.

Pionus make wheezing noises as part of their 'thing' as a species, as you know. They do it when excited or completely relaxed! Depends on the bird. My blue-heads never wheeze unless they see me with the aviary net lol. My W/C's wheeze most of the day through. When it comes to Pionus and wheezing, I wouldn't worry unless you see other distress signs like tail wagging and mouth gaping.

I loooove my P's. I'm still hunting for some B/W pairs, myself!

I knew they wheezed but I thought it was only when they were scared or worked up about something but at times I couldn't figure out what could be scaring him. I have noticed that the only time he really does it now is when he hears my tiels being a bit noisy and obnoxious. Today he started making really cute, happy squeaking noises. It's so much fun when their personalities start to come out!

Just wait till the Pionus mating sound comes along!!

How old is your pi? You may have posted his age, and I'm sorry if I missed it. did you hear the real high pitched TWEEEEET yet??

Jeze makes some cute noises too. Little chirps, then some odd sound that I can't describe, like a squeal.....but has a bit extra added....really hard to explain.

Can you catch a video of when he makes the sound?

I'm not sure how old he is. The woman I got him from said she had a folder with all his information in it but she couldn't find it so I have to go back and get it. I tried to get a video but I think he's so sick of me taking pictures that he either stops doing what he is doing or walks to the other side of the cage and turns his back to me as soon as he hears the beep from the camera turning on (stink!). I know the sound you are talking about, it's the same squeal that he makes but it's a little more than a squeal and very hard to describe. He really hasn't made any other noises yet except for a little honking kind of beeping noise when I say hello to him a couple of times. Can't wait to hear what else will come out of his little beak!
Totally off the subject, does your pionus like to be pet in strange places? This bird LOVES to have his eyelids rubbed really gently. Everytime I go to pet him he moves his head so that I am on his eye and then will open his beak a little and make kind of a purring noise. I don't know if it's just him or if he's finally happy to have some attention but if he had his way I would sit and give him scritches all day long. He's even started to fly to the floor and waddle behind me if I leave the room and he thinks he should come too, lol.
