Bar Spacing for WC or Bronze Pi...1/2in okay?

Hi All,
My husband and I are definitely getting a Pi sometime in the near future. We may rescue a 2 year old WC male in January, or Purchase a baby Bronze-wing in the spring...

Either way, I am now looking at buying cages. I have this AWESOME, awesome cage from my lovebird Enoki that is 30 wide by 18 deep by 30 high, and I think it would be a great size for a Pi. The only problem is, it only comes in 1/2 inch bar spacing.

Is that totally in appropriate for a Pi, or would it be OK? Any reason why it wouldn't be okay?

Half inch would be just fine for a pionus.

Excellent, because many sites state 3/4 to 1 inch....in my opinion, 1/4 of an inch doesn't make much difference...

My maxi spent some time in a cage with half inch, and she got around just fine in there. No worries! Best of luck finding your new friend.

I would think that 1/2" might be too small? That's the bar spacing that I used for Beetle and now Pickle. Personally, I'd think that 3/4" is a better bet for a fully grown pi but that's just based on what I've read.

I'm really excited for you, regardless. Pionus parrots are such fascinating birds!

I have a WC Pi and he used to be in a cage with 1/2" spacing and he never had any problems getting around in it.

This is a relief to know. Just today I was going over one of my preferred cage's specs (for my future Pi) and realized it was 1/2" spacing. Like the OP, I was worried this wouldn't do. I'm relieved to have stumbled upon this post and I'm very glad to know that it will be fine, since it really is a pretty nice cage, imo.

I have no expertise on cage dimensions but I wanted to welcome you to the forum and beg you to post pictures and stories about your new addition when it comes. Pionus are really great birds.

It does depend on the species of pi as well. I have seen a Maxi pionus in a cage with 1/2" bar spacing and while he could get around in it ok it didn't look too comfortable for him. The smaller species of pi's can usually get around with only 1/2" spacing.

You will enjoy your pi, they are great birds. I just adore my WC Monty.
