I got my new baby today

I just brought my new WC Pi home a few hours ago. I'm so in love! Right now he's really nervous, since he came from a pet store and wasn't handled a lot. I know, I know, don't buy from a pet store, but I fell in love with him. He's only 6 mo. old and was hand fed, but like I said he's been sitting in the store for a few months.

He's just sitting on a perch watching everything that goes on, but if I go up and talk to him, he gets nervous and wheezes. I'm going to keep working with him and take things really slowly. I don't care if he doesn't want to come out of his cage for weeks, I just want to give him the best start now. He's really interested in my cockatiels, so hopefully from watching me play with them he will learn about life.

I'm sure I'll be posting with more updates as we progress. Wish me luck!

If anyone has any tips for me on working with a nervous new bird I would love to hear your stories..

I'm sure he'll come around. Just show how happy and wonderful things can be and be patient :)

Congratulations! Just give him some time to get used to being there and he should come around in no time. Watching you with your tiels should help too. If he won't let you talk to him right by the cage then talk to him from across the room or as close as you can get with him still being comfortable.

Can't wait to hear more about him, WC's are so much fun!

Right now I'm sitting in a chair by his cage. He's not wheezing anymore when I am near him. He's actually playing with all his toys now, beaking all of them to check them out and now he's chewing up one with popsicle sticks. He's very interested in the dogs, cats, and 'tiels. Oh, now he's climbed down to his bowl to eat, yeah! He's also been shaking his feathers out "fluffing", and making cute chirping noises. It's so exciting to see his personality come out right before my eyes!
Oh, and his name is Royal! I can't believe I didn't mention that first thing!

I'll post pics tomorrow, I don't want to scare him with the camera and I can't pull myself away from watching him right now anyway!

That's great! It was so much fun to watch Monty turn into a totally different bird. I still sit and just watch him sometimes. He's nothing like the tiels that's for sure.

I agree Katie, I love my 'tiels to pieces, they are their own birds and so easy and fun, but nothing compares to a larger parrot. I think it's great to have the best of both worlds though.

Pattersyn 6 mo monster kitty!
Charley 1 yo White face grey tiel
Perley Day 8 mo White face cinnamon tiel
