Pictures of Royal

Here's the first pictures of Royal. I think he's settling in really well. I opened his cage door and he came right out onto the top to play. He's chirping away with the 'tiels and playing with his foot toys. This is probably the first time he's had them. I tried to get him to take a peanut from my hand. One time he touched it with his beak, but everyother time he just moved away.

My only question now is.... how do I get him back in his cage? He doesn't know step up yet and I don't want to scare him by scooping him up. Any suggestions?

He's adorable!!! Have you tried offering your hand/finger to get him to step up? If he is hesitant try offering one hand from behind and the other from the front so he can go which ever way is more comfortable for him.If he does make sure you tell him what a good boy he is and you'll be on your way to teaching him to step up.

If you can't get him to step up at all try putting a peanut or other treat he likes in his food dish in his cage and see if he will climb in to get it. When you do tell him "time to go home" and of he does praise him.

Thanks everyone! He IS very handsome. :) I love how is colors can be so subtle and then so brilliant in the light.
I ended up getting him back in the cage by having him step up on a dowel. He seemed less afraid of that than my hand and I figured that would at least give him the idea. I'm going to try my hand tomorrow, because I want him to learn that if he wants out he has to step up, he can't just come out whenever he wants, at least for now.
It's so great the progress he has made in 1 day. He now perches at the front of his cage and gets really excited when there is alot going on, the dogs playing, me cleaning, etc. He even tried some warm birdie veggie food!
More updates to come!

Awww, he's so cute! Monty plays with his foot toys more than his regular toys. The regular toys he does play with he pretty much turns into foot toys by untying the knots and taking the wood pieces off and chewing on them.

What is that toy he is playing with? Monty would like something like that.

He's playing with a foot toy that came with a hanging toy I bought off ebay. It's just some plastic straws zip tied together in the middle. It's his favorite so far, but it won't take long for him to take it apart I'm sure.

Here's picture of the toy:

I'm gonna have to make something like that. My tiels would love the toy and Monty would love the foot toy. It scares me sometimes how fast he can get toys dismantled. It takes me longer to tie the knots then it does for him to untie them. Nothing better than spending an hour on a toy just to have him take it apart in 10 minutes, lol. I made a bunch of toys so he has a stockpile and then every night I put them back together after they are in bed so he has them for morning.

What a cutie! *sigh* This only makes me want to get my own wee bird faster. But no, I must wait. I must contain myself. I absolutely love that second picture, though, with him all fluffed up like that.
